Loud A1 (Not mini) Extruder Fan

I just got a brand new A1 on Friday and it has a weird sound. The extruder fan (Not to be confused with the part cooler) is around 50% louder than my A1 mini fan. I have taken out the fan and it looks normal and has no defects. Should I buy a new fan or is it something else?

No not normal. none of the fans should make noise ;

A heads up about mine, about 2 weeks and a few days into getting the mini in February from the (new years sales batch. Might be a bad batch if yours is from the same period) the cooling fan bearing went out and I needed to sub a ticket. It’s brand new so will be free replacement fyi.

From your main page, go to the sub ticket part → they will ask you dumb things like for the log files…of a empty brand new machine… just play along (it’s on the SD card) and attach the empty file. Ticket title: fan bearing dying brand new machine (or something of the sort)

They then will take a few days to come back with " take a video of the problem". So stick your phone near the loud fan and record a few seconds to deafen them for asking silly questions when they play it. Voila, an angry deaf CS agent will reply another few days later “we shipped a new fan sorry for the trouble” :wink:

But the fans are like computer ones (older style sadly) and have bearings in them that go out, soon as they misalign or get worn down they start making noise - don’t wait as like in computers it’s best to get the replacement ball rolling before they fail. I’m looking to see if noctura makes this size to DIY illegal hard swap mine out for even better performance hehe

Good luck , sucks that it happened out of the box. =/

Thanks, however the fan isn’t making a grinding noise its just oddly loud. It sounds like a turbo spooling up. Or like a vacuum.

Apologies I thought you were describing a bearing going out.

I only own the mini so can’t compare to the A1 sorry, so I’ll bow out.

Again just had my bearing blow so thought it was similar

EDIT:

if it’s new just make a ticket anyways the part will be free and you’ll have less stress → it’s possible its got something wrong and your feelings of not normal are valid. never know!

Just happened to have watched this, maybe it help
