Lubricate the Z lead screws, best way to reach the back one?

Well got near 600 hours on the printer already and I was actually getting ready to maintenance on all rods clean etc, but it told me that Z lead screws needed lubrication.

Anyways, The back one seems bit hard to get to to clean off well. Anyone found any tricks to clean up the back one well. Lubrication don’t seem issue as course just put it on rod and run it up and down.

thanks in advance.

Loop a microfiber towel around the screw and loosely work it back and forth while moving it up and down. Move the bed up a little so that the other side of the screw is now on the back side and do it again. Works great for me.

To apply grease I use a small paint brush and spread it on the screw. Then run the bed up and down.

Don’t forget to throw the towel away so you don’t accidentally get grease anywhere it shouldn’t be.

Remove the back side and you can clean it very easy.

Yeah I have thought if I ever had to do a thorough cleaning, but for this I did not want to take all screws in back off. I was thinking maybe someone designed a tool to reach back there easier. Hook cloth on or something.

Yeah after I posted this I thought of that as an option and probably will be doing it. I was thinking maybe someone developed a tool or something could hook a cloth on and reach back there.

I use a large cotton string like large butcher twine about 3 foot long wrapped around the screw a time or two pulling it back and forth

Well I got the printer all cleaned out and back together. Hopefully good to go another 500 hours operation :open_mouth:

Go to a hospital/drug store. Ask for the children’s plastic syringe. Fill it up with your lubricant. Lube away. Most times the syringe is free. I get mine from Kaiser.
