It sold out in less that 24 hours!?!? Please restock it soon! I really want to buy it And also maybe add new product notifications, it’s a good thing I checked this morning.
I’m not sure it was ever in stock. I check the store several times a day for new stuff and it was ETA: Nov 28th from the first time I seen it. Unless it appeared and sold out within a couple hours.
EDIT: Canadian site
Ah man, missed that one. I was on it, on the new build plate and filament this morning though. Wonder if those will go out of stock.
Anyway, to anyone disappointed. I offer my services for hire. I will hold your object and make hovering noises. You don’t need levitation to levitate! Just a little bit of imagination.
I recall a few difficult to find parts that’d constantly go out of stock as soon as it was in stock. Like the 4 in 1 splitter they had, or the filament sensor for the hotend. Gah, had to order a whole new extruder because that filament sensor would consistently go out of stock as soon as it hit the store.
I was on the global site, where they don’t have the “ETA: November 28th” thing. Switched to US and it says it’s still coming soon. Gotta love regional inconsistencies
Edit - I had mentioned little inductive LEDs that might light up in the e-field of the mag-lev kit. Just tried it and they don’t. Could be the frequency is too different from what lights the little LEDs. There still should be a way but it would take a little work to figure it out.
First impressions - the Mag-Lev kit works great! It’s a bit freaky watching the puck float above the base and it seems to be able to support the weight they say. I just pushed on it a bit to see how much resistance and there is quite a bit. But the well is also a bit small. Get outside the well and the puck wants to scoot out the side.
Also, for those who get these, when moving the puck into position or while testing the limits, hold onto the base or secure it somehow. The base is fair sized and heavy but will also jump to crash the puck.
The build is a bit delicate. The puck has a thin shell and pops apart very easy on a hit. If it happens to you, look for the tab on the captive circuit board and make sure that gets oriented to a gap in the ring that retains the board in the center.
For those who solder, it looks like the four LEDs in the center - 2 white, 2 amber - should be easy to desolder and add extension wires to position them or drive other LEDs in your models. The built-in LEDs are quite bright so there’s a fair amount of current available. Not sure how they are driving them. It could take a scope to know what’s really going on and do more than just extend the stock LEDs.
It’s too bad the Adafruit inductive-lit LEDs don’t just light up in the field, though. That could have made Christmas tree or other added lights very cool.
Looks to be restocked now
EDIT: 15% off if you buy two or more, just sayin’
Thank you!! I was able to grab one.
Snagged one too! Thanks for the heads up! And just sold out. I swear it bannered Nov 28th for a moment but it seems gone now.
Up to 200g capacity. Can fit a lot in that. And there is power.
Thank you! I’m about to buy one
Yep.
Geez
$120??!??? Pricy
Where are you seeing this?
I checked other stores, and it looks like it’s in stock in the US, coming Nov 28 in the EU, and isn’t on the UK store. Weird
Oh look, all those printed lightsaber handles could have their own “real” “blade”! yay
That’s nothing for the nerds who’d like their stick to glow and make noises
I’ve been working on three projects with essentially the same functionality as the motion/light/sound kit but using off the shelf stuff from Adafruit.
All up cost for each project I’m working on is in the $50 range depending on the neopixels I use. If folks aren’t familiar with neopixels they are just RGB or RGBW LEDs with built in PWM controllers that set each LED to desired brightness just like any color display. They are really beautiful and the animation can be very fast depending on string length. They are in a series string and the microcontroller just sends out a pulse train that sets each pixel to the desired color and brightness. The board also has a 3W audio amplifier and a servo output.
The down side is you have to program it yourself and the documentation could be better. The Bambu kit is ready to go, though. Plug and play but not sure if the programming can be changed or modified.
The board I use is the “Prop-Maker”: Adafruit RP2040 Prop-Maker Feather with I2S Audio Amplifier : ID 5768 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits
Speakers are just 4 ohm: Speaker - 40mm Diameter - 4 Ohm 5 Watt : ID 3968 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits
Neopixel strips or individual pixels are all over the place depending on various factors.
It has a built-in accelerometer that detects motion, taps, or impacts and example code to make a light saber is available for download. Programming if just installing pre-written code is trivial - plug the board in (holding a button) and it looks like a USB drive. You just copy some files to it and reset. And there’s a bunch of other stuff too. It would be hard to have a need the Prop-Maker can’t accommodate. There are ADCs, I2C interfaces, buttons, timers, and the STEMMA allows adding all sorts of stuff with no soldering. It can use a LiPo battery and recharge it from USB for portable/untethered projects too.
As for sounds, the Prop-Maker can use whatever wav files you want as long as they are proper type and bit rate. Looping sounds have a length they need to be a multiple of as well.
That is extremely expensive for the parts list.
Doesn’t even appear in the U.K. store, not even using search.
Yeah, regional differences, plus U.K. always the armpit for BL.
Well, here in the colonies we’re about to see 60% tariffs for Chinese products so the $120 will turn into $192. That will make for more things needing other outlets when the US demands falls.
That is a good point, it is possible BL might respect the U.K. when they realise we do not have ill-targeted or punitive tariffs.
The U.K. is a large market for 3D print companies, yet, BL treats it so poorly.
Keep in mind your new wise leader believes YOU will not have to pay them because he listens to the voices in his head rather than actual experts in the field.
Didn’t for me, and I don’t need two enough to try it blindly
Yeah, the discount isn’t showing up now when I put two in my basket.
I notice there are a bunch of new Maker Combo Kits this morning too.
