Maintenance Z -Axis

Hi,
I saw in the wiki that you can read about regular maintenance of the Y-axis. There is even a video. The X-axis shouldn’t be much different and, like the Y-axis, would probably done with WD-40 multifunctional oil. I haven’t found anything about cleaning and greasing the Z-axis.
Now the spindles are not so easy to reach. This is good, so that they are better protected, but makes cleaning quite difficult. But before you re-grease the spindles, you should probably clean them first. What is the best way to do it?

Thanks in advance

There are a lot of different tools on Makerworld to help with cleaning the Z axis lead screws. Pick your favorite one.

I use old toothbrushes for this. Give them a second lease on life.

Did mine yesterday, I find the printed tools while ingenious are annoying and often not safe when they get jammed at either end (warning do NOT put fingers past the door). I’ve found a simple disposable rag that is big enough to loop around the back of the rods works and is one use then yeet. WD40 or my choice Silicone spray as long as you are careful and have the Plate removed.

Home the plate. Then bottom it out with the down-10 screen button. Loop the rag on top close to the nut and with the spray give the rod a judicious spray to give you some cleaning action. Then start operating the button up to get the rag at the top while holding tension on it, this is where having no body parts in the crush zone is critical. Up and down a few times dependant on how dirty you are, rotate the rag so its clean parts are working rather than dragging the mud more. Repeat for the underside to get that last section. It takes 20min done to dentist standards. My rods are shiny again  Lube is up to you but light application string up the shaft and let the nut spread the joy. Wipe any excess down. I up the game and use a little dribble of Superlube oil to enhance the job at the end.
