Make reduce Infill retraction off by default

Please make this off as default and user selectable if a user wishes to use it. I find it saves no time and causes supports to get knocked over. I would much rather have a clean print than a 30 second faster one.

It’s a dangerous pair of settings IMO to have grid AND infill retraction off in the defaults.

Grid guarantees there are nozzle collision points in the infill, but then by removing retraction you ALSO remove z hop during retraction, so the nozzle strikes the grid infill EVEN more.

Boo to reduce infill retraction, all my homies hate infill raking

I got into a habit of creating a default project, loading that up first, then importing my objects and saving them as a new project so that I don’t forget to uncheck the infill box. I’m bald from all the frustration of knocked over supports until I discovered that one setting. Unchecking has made my life printing so much better.

I was watching it print one day, one that had big supports that spanned a good 270mm bridge, and saw the damnednozzle striking the support branches and thought, there HAS to be some screwed up setting somewhere causing this. Imagine my glee when I found it.

Between that and editing all the filament settings to turn the first 5 layer cooling off, my prints are coming out so much better.

Totally agree. I spent hours looking for the source of the random clicking sound thinking it was a mechanical issue. What is interesting is i had like a 1000 hours of printing in before this first happened to me. I think maybe specific combinations of size and geometry (large and convex) with particular infills (self crossing) trigger this.

Have others seen a pattern? wondering if the reason it has been left on by default is the combination is uncommon for beginners and by the time people hit it they usually can diagnose it? Not a good reason since this can cause big long prints to fail and the gain seems minimal at best. Just curious why this isn’t happening all the time.
