Makerworld.com model search operators

Please add some basic search operators to makerworld.com

For instance, I am currently trying to search for models created for the Amazon Echo 4th Gen, but there seems to be no way to exclude results for the Echo Dot 4th Gen.

Usually searching for echo 4th gen -dot would do the trick.

Also, please check out my other requests and let me know what you think…

Encourage Remixing
Enable Panning when previewing 3D models
Add to Collection - Search feature improvements

Thanks

I think we are in the world of AI search rather than Boolean algorithms from some of the older traditional search engines.

I am with you though, I would like them.

It is also up to the designers to provide accurate information.

Based on your suggestion of AI involvement, I tried…

Hey, please find all models for the echo 4th gen. Do not include results that include the word dot

Against all hope, this did not work out well… At all

Yeah being able to search tags specifically aswell would be good, for example search pikachu but only look for things with the tag keyring etc

Good, working searches seem to be like unicorns. Nobody has one. WHY?
What good is a search that shows anything with ‘cyber’ in it somewhere? Search for cyberbrick and see what you get.
Sadly, the site is still ‘beta’ and seems to improve slowly if at all.

Well, a certain linux ISO website i frequent has a search that lets you use both a text search and tags at the same time and even lets you specify which categories to search in

So its doable its just that most places want things to be quick and “functional” and they rarely look at adding things like exact searches despite pretty much every backend database supporting those exact things

Most of them tend to use " " to specify exact matches like google does, but even theirs can be a bit hit or miss

we can probably reverse engineer queries to find what database and indexing scheme they use too, but the cleanliness problem is user-content driven. The poor database is likely doing exactly as its told…

I just want their ‘relevance’ search to be better. The models returned often make absolutely zero sense. I have to switch to sorting by downloads or likes to get decent results.

Is there a reason I am unable to search for “Game of Thrones”. There are many models with this in the title however the search comes up empty?

Seems to work fine here and return results

The big problem with search is the initial classification. The poster is left to classify. Might as well be Radom. IE someone posting a figit toy, in the Tool/Gadget catogory. Then because there are so many already there more are added.

I agree it would be nice to have search options (any, all, not…). Have not tested but it looks like searches return any words used, anywhere in the post. and adding something like “dot” adds that to what is returned. Exactly opposite of the intent.

“Game of thrones” search worked for me in the US.

I wonder what the factors are? Why it didn’t work for Eliblue38

Maybe area, maybe some filter, maybe something happened to be down, country, … Maybe it is a feature not a bug. Can it be manipulated? I want a filter on searches “-dot”(from prior post).

Another complication is global language. My uses of words are different than other languages. Translation is not a simple mapping of words. I wish that problem was significant. It would mean the other problem of search was solved.

Yep, really wish they had even the basic of search modifiers…

If I put something in ““ it means the title or description MUST have whatever is in between, its NOT optional…

On Makerworld, yaaaa about that
