Hello everyone, I’m A_ilterish and I’ve been uploading my designs to MakerWorld for almost a year, I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in this process, today I would like to ask you about the Commercial license, many people ask if some of my designs have a commercial license and since I have included most of my designs in the MakerWorld Exclusive Program, I would like to know if I can give a commercial license on other platforms such as Patreon, if not, it would be a loss for me to include my work in the Exclusive program. I also asked MakerWorld officials about the issue, but I did not get a clear answer.
Makerworld exclusive model program stipulates that the model needs to be hosted only on makerworld. They do not prohibit offering commercial licences for exclusive models as long as the files are only hosted on makerworld.
Dunno what you mean by “sell” here, but based on experience with designers on Patreon as well as their stance regarding links to external sites:
it’s clear they’re ok with patreon.
So - if you are offering a commercial licence for your models, and the files are NOT hosted on external sites but only on MakerWorld, then you’re in the clear regarding Exclusive Model Program.
Many designers have it set up so that users buy say ‘commercial tier’ patreon package and that covers commercial licence for designer’s models downloaded from ANYWHERE. And that allows model to be licenced for commercial use (for prints, not for selling the model files) and hosting on MakerWorld under exclusive model program.
To reiterate:
Model MUST be hosted on makerworld, nowhere else
The patreon or any other selling of models is just for prints, not files of the model.
