Well we can all go home now. The ā€œreal designersā€ have spoken and your quality of models isn’t and hasn’t been up to snuff, so take your printer and go home. They have spoken.

Here we go again.

Confusing unique with exclusive. And Gatekeeping.

The clip aside, I’m not discussing another users model, especially when that user is taking part in the forum.

I have to ask you guys. When were you designated to decide what does and doesn’t belong in the program? I couldn’t give you two small toddler diapers what your qualifications are for a freaking HOBBY.

When this frist dropped A LOT of what isn’t wanted was not stated, and was not stated clearly. People such as myself jumped in to take advantage of the opportunity to be apart of it and to gain points. No one can fault that. Not even a toddler.

BL finally makes a statement regarding what they want. Fantastic. This eliminated a lot of the models that were intitally entered. Now, not only are they penalized by MW when they’re removed, we have ā€œexpertsā€ on the forum throwing stones. Tell me, who is the toddler?

Maybe only those so versed in design should ever upload anything. That way there won’t be others to whom they can look down their noses at so they can feel superior.

I appreciate the response though. I would have taken it as a different opinion until the very second insults were leveled in a holier than thou attitude.

My ignore list grows by the day. That was really uncalled for.

The QR Code creator I made has been restored into the program,

After careful review, we have reinstated the model ā€œPremium QR Code Sign & Keyring Parametric Creatorā€ and the corresponding exclusive points.

I can only assume this means no careful thought was involved in its prior removal.

Well that’s good.
I’m still waiting to be removed. I’ve asked 4 times now.
I’ll lose my head if I end up losing points because of inaction. I’m perfectly fine with not being eligible, just not fine with eventually being punished for it.

That’s the worst part. Nothing compares in terms of ā€œbadā€ in this program. Punishing people essentially beta-testing the program is inexcusable imho and all points lost should be restored (converted to ā€œnormalā€ points)

@MakerWorld One thing is for sure, this has divided the user base, at least here. It’s clear now how some look down on others because they believe their models are superior.

I’m at the point where I am seriously considering just pulling models or not doing another thing. This isn’t a place where people should be divided. It’s a hobby. Now that real money is involved it’s going to get worse.

Thinking about it, I’ll say it now. In a week I will pull all my models (maybe take them private) if something isn’t done. Points don’t mean that much to me, and it isn’t fun at the moment. Really starting to hate MakerWorld.

You can always just post in the regular models section if your models don’t fit in the exclusives. There’s another color printer about to or already hitting and they will need color models for their platform but haven’t heard about rewards/points but they may end up having to mirror Bambu’s program to attract models to their platform. Who knows?

I may look at other platforms. Here though I think I’ll just stop.
Clearly there’s a disconnect between what’s wanted and what’s communicated, as well as the bad taste some users have left. I’m not punishing BL, wouldn’t notice if I did. I just don’t think I want to be a part of MW anymore.

The guidelines are so vague that any decision can be justified. Looking at the models I mentioned in my sarcastic message, can you honestly say two of them are more original than the other two? I couldn’t, even if my life depended on it. Luckily, my situation is resolved, but as I mentioned, there are 67 of us here, and thousands of creators out there are unaware of the risks. So, I’ll say it again:

Until the eligibility rules and guidelines are clear, please allow everyone the option to leave the program with just the 25% penalty.

Don’t let the situation get you down. Let’s give them time to make the right decision and keep our message clear. I’ll continue speaking up for you and any other creator in the same situation until they do what’s fair.

Let’s not exaggerate. There is no other platform that gives such rich rewards to its users. Even my lousy models generated thousands of dollars.
Tell me where else you could get $$$ gift cards for such models.

Eh, that did entice me at first. Especially with the SW stands I created, it was both fun and it gained points. I started to learn the software needed to do more. That fun has gone away. I have an idea for the stands that I quickly lose interest in once I start, and I have another idea I have to learn a bit more to make. Almost ready to give it to someone else.

Fact is, this isn’t fun. Isn’t interesting. There is no reason really to do it if you’re just starting out. Better to just make for me and leave it at that. Fact is if you’re in my shoes or similar MakerWorld is really geared against you. I don’t have the time or energy to overcome it, there’s really little benefit vs just doing my own thing.

They are not a charity, they earn far more from us than we do from them.

It is an unbalanced relationship (that is typical) that they take advantage of (no long term goals with that attitude).

This. Individually we are of no consequence. Together we are directly responsible for Bambu’s success. We provide all the models that entice customers and sell filament and printers at way under the going rate for professional design services.

MakerWorld is the goose that lays golden eggs for Bambu and yet they do very little to police it and keep it high quality. Same for their filament. Both should be very high priorities for Bambu because both are the life blood that keeps printers kicking out the door.

All these issues do have me wondering about long-term health here. It’s totally up to Bambu how they run things but if another entity started up another benefits program to draw print models to their printers, I’d put my models on both and see which does better.

This is another part that’s hard to capture… How to make this 3d hobby ā€œfunā€ for people who are at first designing for fun and for themselves. In my case I’m certain that if not for contest I would’ve posted exactly 4 models less than I did, because only those 4 models were inspired by contest and my goal on top of contest was to learn something for myself. As for publishing stuff goes - I have to keep telling myself that I don’t do it for points, because once I’ll start ā€œfor points!ā€ it’ll stop being fun. This ā€œstop being funā€ killed couple of my hobbies already, among them one that I invested WAAAAAY more than in 3d printing.

Yep.
I have a ton invested in Legos, Black Series, miniture painting, and the like. The orginal point was to use 3D printing to enhance those hobbies and I have. Then I wanted to share because most of the stands out there aren’t great. I thought ā€œhey these work, I can make adjustments if you need, and they’ll always be freeā€.

The mistake I made was doing more.

I know what did it though was this program. No one likes being put in their place, but that’s exactly what MW has done. Driven a wedge between those that are fully experienced and want to make money vs those that want to share and have fun.

I thought that was what Patreon was for.

We are the cash cow. All those that post anything from a little part to massive things. Since it’s clear now that little dinky ā– ā– ā– ā–  like mine isn’t wanted, then why should I help them. They won’t even listen and let me out of the program after they stated how to do that.

So here I am. Hostage, gonig to lose points. I’ll be over 200 in the hole as it stands now. With the snobbery and being ignored, I don’t think I want to do this anymore. I had more fun just printing.

So far, the models I posted were designed to address a need in my household or for a friend.

I have not created something just for the sake of posting here. So… the gift cards are a bonus.

Again, for models of mediocre quality like mine, MW is the perfect host. With all its imperfections, it is the best for my needs.

I have a few models on Cults that generate passive income. Each place has its benefits.

This discussion currently has me really thinking about pulling my stuff. If I’m only going to be in the hole there’s no point in having them up.

We can’t get out, no matter what they said. This puts me in a position to not want to be on MW.

I don’t think your models aren’t wanted. It’s just they may not be the multi-thousand d/l blockbusters others generate. There’s no helping that except by upping your game and/or going for the more mainstream tchotchke style stuff.

The points and such were a happy surprise and I have leaned into that a little but to each their own. But it’s not why I post stuff here. My stuff is nickel/dime stuff anyway.

And creating and seeing what is popular and what isn’t is the only real way to learn. It can be discouraging but stick with it a while and who knows?

I agree with you, 100% good advice.
I don’t have it in me, really. I’m not upset that they don’t qualify for ā€œexclusiveā€. What I’m bothered about right now is that I’m held hostage. Since they’ve decided stuff like mine isn’t wanted and made that clear after the fact, I’m in a tough spot.

I’ve asked 4 times to be removed and had 1 converstation. In that converstation it was said some (although I don’t know which) are fine in the exclusive, and they’d give the 12 points (boost - exclusive pts) back. I have told them I just want out, and nothing. Not pulled, no points.

I am fine with not getting those points back. I am not fine with them eventually getting around to removing the rest and deducting points they’ve earned when I tried to avoid that by doing what they said to do.

I’m a simple guy. Just let the models out. I’ve moved the ones that are obvious to private. Moving the others in a week, maybe 3 days.

In awhile I’ll feel like going at it again. When I do though, MW is off the table. Just really don’t trust them, and don’t like how they do users. I don’t want to be a part of that.

Totally your decision but I think Bambu is still licking wounds over the rejection of the Exclusive program and figuring out how to salvage it. My guess is they will award all regular points and maybe even the bonus points too for good will.

Or they may not. But I kind of think they will. They tried to do something that appeared win-win and got thrashed for the rollout. Without gatekeeping there was probably a huge flood especially of inappropriate models for their guidelines. It’s going to take effort to unwind it all and could be why there’s such a backlog to getting requests to pull models done.

I have no idea but can appreciate the headache this has likely become for them. I bet they are in the change tire while car is on highway at full speed phase.

But your call for sure and I’m sure lots understand the frustration.
