MakerWorld Exclusive Program is now Live!

I don’t see the appeal of the cash-out option. Maybe for some, just not for me.

I can get over $120 in gift cards (tax free), for the same amount of points for $100 (minus taxes).

If you are spending money in the BambuLab store anyway, gift cards are still the best route.

Now, I understand if you don’t want to spend the money there, it makes sense to take the penalty and get the cash.

(Sorry, I like math…)

Some people (not me) get way more gift cards than they need, so it makes sense to not want them. I’d rather have less money if I have a reason spend it on stuff :person_shrugging:

Also not sure about gift cards being tax free, quick search finds this:

Exclusive points can still be used like normal in the points shop as well, with the added benefit that they accumulate slightly faster.

Very interesting. I am not an employee of BambuLab, so I am not sure it counts as “a fringe benefit … [to be] included in an employee’s wages” and to be truthful, I don’t know if I get enough gift cards in a year to even be considered “self employed”. But I do appreciate where you are coming from.

BambuLab does not automatically take taxes out of the gift cards, like they would the cash option.

Yes, that was my point. I foresee continuing to use them there.

Deleted all of my models from Printables, Cults, and Thingiverse. I did set my Printables items as drafts juuuuust in case. Switched over all my original models to Exclusive. We’ll see how this goes!
(edit: lol I already got 3.75 points? fractions are new!)

Yup, since the exclusive models get a 25% bonus it’s usually going to be decimal numbers now

Great wording of the questions. It feels like they pushed to prod on a Friday not expecting any questions…

If you thought this place was overrun by minimal easy to generate models before now that you can get direct cash instead of having to buy printers with giftcards to flip… But MW won’t let that happen, right?

My local subway shop doesn’t take filament for payment, is the real issue.

One of us! One of us! One of us!

Well, I guess you were already, but still

Nice idea, but will probably not use it in any way as the only available license disallows remixes. I create parametric and source available models and I think that if somebody can create something better out of it, they should be able to do so.
I also don’t like the fact that this creates an incentive to disallow remixes.

Ohh, look I can quote myself

There actually was a food cart I use to go to, that would give me free food when I brought them 3d printed models. Sadly the owner had an accident recently.

No, I have over 200 makes for my account.

A standard license does not prevent commercial use. It restricts use without permission. This authorization is from you, the designer, not BL, as you own the design (assuming the design itself isn’t infringing another IP). Physical prints can still be sold if you are the right’s owner, or have permission from the right’s owner. It’s the files themselves that must remain exclusive to receive the benefits from the program.

Thanks for the headsup! I need to do some adobe-ing

How do I designate which program I am joining? I moved my models into the program but I don’t see how to identify if it is the Exclusive program or the 14 day exclusive program. How is that designation determined?

I think a new license type would be good. One that would allow for remixes to be shared on Makerworld. I’ve actually wanted this for a while now. Or allow remixes to be linked to standard license models.

I generally already use the Standard license type, not to restrict people from selling physical prints or do remixes. But rather because every CC license allows redistribution of the files anywhere by anyone, altered or unaltered.

It’d be nice to have a options that still prohibit redistribution of the files, but allows for commercial use of physical prints and/or remixes to be shared-alike (remaining MW exclusive).

I get that the edge case I was talking about was licensing a 3rd party to make commercial copies as opposed the the designer selling it themselves. The Python AMS mod is a good example the designer has license three companies to sell it.

Well here we go - I just put I my first “exclusive” model, we’ll see how it does

The bold part would be the 3rd parties you give authorization to. They can sell physical copies, not the files themselves (if exclusive).

@MakerWorld

When will the Wallet - Payout Information Postal Code field be able to enter an actual Postal code?

It is called Postal Code but it appears to support ZIP codes only.

A U.K. postal code includes letters and numbers in a variety of patterns and different lengths.

If you stop prohibiting alpha characters, I think you will find you support the vast majority of the world’s Postal/Zip codes.

If you try to include validation, you are in for a world of hurt, because the world uses very different styles.

Here are the main ones for the U.K., there are exceptions.

  • AA9A 9AA
  • A9A 9AA
  • A9 9AA
  • A99 9AA
  • AA9 9AA
  • AA99 9AA
  • AAAA 1ZZ
  • AI-2640
  • KYn-nnnn
  • MSR-nnnn
  • VG-nnnn
  • aa nn
  • aa aa
  • BFPO n{1-4}

Trying to validate all postcodes is an extremely complicated task. It is simpler to allow a maximum of 10 alphanumeric codes with hyphens as some countries use those to eliminate.

I have been forced to lie and enter zeros as I can’t be truthful.
