Makerworld profiles question

Over on makerworld I have found custom filament profiles users have posted.

Now the title of the post will say for instance “PETG profile for X1C”… But on makerworld there is always a section called “Print Profiles”, where you can choose any of the Bambu printers.

Since I have the A1 printer, can I just select the A1 from the print profile section and have that users filament profile work for my A1???

I’m assuming no, but maybe I’m wrong…

Thx

As it is written on the page and is available: yes. Why not?

I don’t have an A1 myself, but I looked at one of my print profiles that was automatically labelled “A1”. Since my print profile was only created on the X1C, it may also work on the A1 because:

  • the object fits on any printing plate
  • standard Bambu filament is used in the profile

The print profile itself lists the printers for which it should work. So yes, if you select “A1” above the print profiles and the print profile is not hidden, it will work on the A1. Click on the grey field of the print profile and see which printers are listed.

Any profile made for the P or X series will work on the A1 (full-size), P or X series printer.

If you have an A1 and the profile was created for the X1C, you select it in Bambu Handy and print it.

If you use Bambu Studio, change the printer from X1C on the top-left side of the Prepare tab to your A1 and print it.

Either way, the caption written by someone doesn’t override the options presented in the Handy App or your actions in Bambu Studio.

Thanks for your replies!

Yeah I understand that I can select A1 from the profile list for normal 3d models.

I just wasn’t sure if that was the case for filament profiles as well… Due to speed differences, etc
… There are some users that will make completely seperate “listings / uploads” for a filament profile but for different printers…

Just to clarify, im talking specifically about uploads of “filament profiles” not 3d models to print.

Thanks

Thanks for the clarification!

I also have mixed feelings about this “mess”. There was once a discussion here about whether you can simply print a model (and a profile contains the model and its settings, because these cannot be separated) with a different filament if print speeds, accelerations and other parameters are matched to a specific filament. And I wasn’t alone in thinking that you can’t just mix and match. In other words, you can’t simply transfer the print settings for a model to any filament. How exactly this works at Makerworld has not yet been announced, at least I don’t know anything about it (I may have overlooked it).

If I have used a specific filament and adjusted extra print parameters for it, then I also publish this as a print profile for this type of filament. Others do the same. You simply cannot transfer retraction parameters, temperatures etc. to another filament if this is combined with certain speeds. To get the best result with TPU, for example, it would not be advisable to apply the same settings to another filament such as PLA (this could cause clogging of the nozzle or very unsightly prints, for example).

Recently I noticed that Bambulab was changing something in the profiles, at least when uploading it said I had GCode settings in the profile that would be removed. I couldn’t figure out what this was because I was using standard Bambu-Slicer profiles (except for TPU).

I once printed my own profile, which was designed for PLA, with PETG via the app and it worked. Whether profiles or the models in them can be printed on different printers depends primarily on the framework conditions, such as the print bed size of a printer and the maximum temperature of a printer. It is possible that Bambulab ignores the profile settings via the software and replaces them with its own and only links the model from a 3MF to it in order to then send it to your printer. But I have no internal knowledge of this.
