Does anyone have any info on what makerworld looks like long term? I’ve been uploading to many sites and from what I can see Makerworld is probably the best option for designers who want to upload so people can download them for free. Cults3d so far has been the best option for me selling designs.
That being said I could see Makerworld going down a route where they allow designers to sell designs and memberships. I’m not saying they have to or even should do it like the other sites do it but they could if they wanted to. Also they have a unique ability to sell per print models. Like pay once and you get one print of it. pay again if you want a second.
Anyway I’m just curious if anyone has seen anything about their plans to take over the model repository world.
I don’t see Makerworld going away at any time, so long as they keep selling their machines. Remember, this is a free sight, meaning anyone can build and post their prints at no cost to the consumers. Unlike some of the pay sites. Now you might not see some of the more fancy STL’s but it is still a free site.
For beginners and novices, Makerworld is great. But for the more experienced, the pay sites are a way to go.
You can have both. Printables introduced payed model a couple of months ago. I don’t see why MW wouldn’t go on the same route, especially if one of their goal is to offer good quality models.
