Messaging Followers?

Is there a way to send followers a message? Like to tell them about new designs or other opportunities?

I would consider that spam.

You choosing to message people when there is no mechanism for those people to choose if they wish to receive it or not is the definition of spam.

I wouldn’t dream of doing that to my followers, few as they may be.

They chose to follow you, nothing more. This means they can look at a feed of all their follows to see new uploads or select the follows list and select an individual to see that designers uploads.

If you did message them without their consent, you would be breaking laws in multiple countries. The E.U. & U.K. to name but two. It falls under GDPR, more specifically PECR, which has been law in both those territories since 2003.

If a future update from BL in MW gives people the choice, they can then choose to consent by opting in.

I was asking if there was a mechanism to do it through makerworld. I would assume if it were there then it would be legal. Guess you long answer is no, no mechanism now. Maybe they will add it in the future.

As far as I know, there is a dialog about sending notifications about the model update if you upload a new version.

I’d like to ‘refine’ the suggestion.

Instead of a message directly to followers, I’d like to see an ‘activity’ feature like in Printables. This allows me to post a message about my next model or pictures of work in progress. It also allows me to engage with my followers. It is not a direct message to them but very similar to looking at the feed of uploads. The feature also allows comments for feedback as well.

Teamwork,
Steve

This would be cool. I wouldn’t want to be getting direct-ish messages either, but if I had a feed I could pull up with post/releases from my followed designers, that’d be awesome. I’d like that as a designer too. It’d make it easier to announce adjustments/additions to my models. Sometimes I want to add something to a model, like a variation, but have no way to effectively advertise it within Makerworld.

This works as it serves the same goal whilst allowing ’followers’ (both passive and active) to engage if they wish.

Consent should always be king.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve added this feature request to our list.
