Minimal footprint X2D

I’m thinking about ordering the X2D, but I have limited space at my current setup location. Right now, I have a P2S that fits there perfectly. The X2D is basically the same size, but it has the extruder for the second nozzle on the back, so it probably needs more space in depth.

So my question is: could someone please measure how much depth is needed to set up the X2D? If you place it right up against the wall, what is the minimum floor space required so that the front doesn’t stick out?

There’s not only extruder at the back but also external exhaust. This one needs some distance from the wall, for obvious reasons. Giving around 7-8 cm for that, you need around 51-52 cm of space. 52 cm will give you 1 cm margin from front edge so if you want to do it safe, target around 53-54 cm. Around 48 cm is IMO absolute minimum with fan at 2 cm to the wall but i don’t recommend that.

As Vulc said, I’d allow about 52mm (20”) minimum. It isn’t really the appendages on the back panel that limit the depth, but the routing of the PTFE tubing that needs to be considered. The X2D seems to be a little fussy with filament resistance in the tubing, so keeping the loops’ radii as large as possible with the factory lengths is important.

You also need to account for the “poop” chute on the back. I actually use an old tissue box, but you can also print something.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what I was afraid of.
My Workbench is 46cm in depth and the P2S needs around 43cm.
I was actually pretty happy when I saw that there was a new 256mm printer available, hoping it would fit in the same spot as my current one. But oh well, I guess I’ll just stick with the P2S for a while longer. There aren’t really many reasons to replace it anyway.

I’m guessing the last number is height, but if the second number is 70 cm deep, that’s crazy.

Why can’t they just add w, d, & h to their dimensions like they do in the build volume so it is clear?

I agree. That’s why I asked here.
The 406 mm isn’t the whole story, and 700 mm is far too generous.
My shelf space is only 46 cm, and I wanted to know if there’s any chance at all of fitting it on there. I might be able to come up with another solution for the fan. But the printer and the extruder have to fit within the 46 cm.

I just measured my X2D depth (with fan) at 44.5cm. That leaves a gap of 1.5cm from the wall. My paper napkin calculations say that you need at least 2cm to provide enough air flow.

In other words, if you could somehow squeeze 1cm (47cm) of depth you should be okay. You might be able to drop that to 46.5cm, but you are getting close to the limit in my book.

For the fan I can imagine a kind of adapter to bring it to the side of the printer.
Lets see, I am still not sure if I should upgrade my P2S with the X2D.
It brings some benefits and I have enough bambu points to get it….
