Hi everyone
I’m quite confused and also curious about one thing. I read in the “terms of service” that it is not allowed modifying the product (printer) or producing and selling accessories for it. It is written in chapter 3.1 and 3.4. Is it so or did I misunderstood something? What if I have a wague idea for a usaful and innovative accessory which I would like to develop and offer for sale (as compatible third party accessorie) without violating Bambulab’s or someone’s trade mark rights? @BambuLab Do you really want forbid such initiatives for third party developers and prevent growth of your products ecosystem, limiting it only to your in-house ideas?
“You may not use Bambu Lab technology or Bambu Lab intellectual property to develop software or design, develop, manufacture, sell, or licence third-party devices/accessories associated with Bambu Lab Product without Bambu Lab’s prior consent.”
Yes, exactly. Chapter 3.1 (and 3.4). Thank you for your answer. I understand what you’re getting at, however this doesn’t makes it better. I would not ask for permission and sharing my ideas with someone before protecting my intellectual property in some way and I can’t (and probably don’t want) protecting it before it’s developed (at least to a certain level of maturity) . And I would also not start develop something, spending time and efforts knowing that BambuLab can just forbidding me get my return of inwest by selling it. It’s vicious circle. Hope my point is little bit clearer now.
Sorry for the confusion — I was only trying to share the specific statement since you left that out of your original post.
People are already selling accessories for Bambu Lab printers. I’m not sure Bambu Lab can prevent people from creating accessories. And if you have any doubts, you might need to hire a lawyer to decipher that statement and figure out which parts (if any) apply in the country where you live.
Yes, I’m also quite sure, that in country where I live (Germany) Bambu Lab can’t forbid me selling for instance a 256x256 spring sheet or simply a screwdriver tagged as “compatible with BambuLab printers”. It’s more about company’s philosophy that confuses me. I’m just wandering why BambuLab writes this in their terms and maybe someone had already got some official statement or noticed precidence cases. @msinger could you please share a link to a third-party acessorie for BambuLab printers you mentionef?
Thank you for your reply and the links @PrinterMcgee@msinger. In case of enclosure for P1P I’m pretty sure BambuLab explicitly called up to build own styles and designs, so there was a clear permission. The pex building plate is indeed a good precident.
