I would like if Makerworld had a model viewer like other 3d model sites. I know you can view the models with a print profile but they are on the build plate, so you cant really have a assembled model for the viewer on large prints.
Another issue I ran into recently was that a print profile was taken down due to not having a completed print pic. It would be nice if you would waive this requirement for the model creator so we can use the 3d viewer and share our recommended print orientation. I’m fine with not getting points for any print profile without a picture but it should be left up or provide an alternative model viewer.
you can see a 3d view of profiles already. why do you think that untested profiles should be allowed? if you tested the profile and printed it just add a picture of it. if you didnt test the profile and you dont have the proof that you did then dont upload a profile and let the downloader import the model themselves.
Ok just went to check this and it doesn’t show up for all models. So not really sure how to get that option and it would be nice if that was available same location as the print profile 3d viewer.
No, it’s on the website. On the handy app I don’t know.
Yes it also depends on the model. If the uploader doesn’t provide the original stl/step and upload just the 3mf print profile, you can only view the profile.
Ok at least I learned how that works. It does need an stl or step. I had been uploading 3mf raw files when using cad software and it didn’t work at all, but my blender stls were visible.
Because I don’t need to print something to know that it will work. I know they had to add the picture requirement to stop spam print profiles. But if it would nice if they let the model creator upload an untested one and just not give out points it could even say untested on it or whatever. Or they could just have the model viewer more visible for the raw files if there is no print profile like all the other model sites.
untested profiles go against the whole idea of what the profiles are intended for…
you could upload an untested profile that has bad start gcode and wrecks a printer and you think that this is ok as long as you dont earn points for it? what your suggesting makes no sense at all.
Makerworld slices and creates the gcode, the profiles just share your print settings and model orientation.
So its not even possible to create a profile that would wreck the printer and if it was nothing is stopping someone from uploading a picture of a print made with different settings.
Mainly I just want the raw model file viewer to be more prominent if there is no print profile and to work with 3mf. Because I can still share my print profile in the raw files as a 3mf but I don’t get the viewer on the front page.
