More Color Choices for Filament

It would be nice to have more color choices when loading filament in ur AMS. For instance Rainbow. Rainbow Silk. Shiny colors. Then I definitely know oh yeah that’s rainbow filament in slot 3. Has anyone else wanted this?? Wood. Gold. Glow.

Yeah there needs to be a 255/255/255 scale.

This would be nice since I frequently use multiple shades of the same color, but only have about 3 to choose from.

OG absolutely. The 255 idea is nice too.

More color options are definitely a must.
No Idea why that is not a thing yet

Just in case Bambu is tracking which requests get more discussion… I would love that the slicer would let you pick from a full range of colors rather than just the small number of pre-selected colors. Arguably it doesn’t change what the slicer actually does, but it’d be nice to more closely reflect the actual colors of the filament, particularly for multicolor printing.

I have transparent filament, as well as orange, purple, shades of gray, etc. and would like to be able to choose colors closer to the actual color both for Bambu Studio previews and just to remind me what’s actually loaded (my PC is not near my printer.)

I think it comes down to implementation.
For me it is already a pain when dealing with two filaments of similar colour.
And giving them meaningful name really isn’t the solution that is user friendly.

I don’t really care about the colour shown in Studio for the filament slots.
I rather have like a logo or thumbnail that I can freely edit.
Like for your rainbow filaments a logo with a similar colour gradient or for a wood filled filament, well, a piece of wood…
A nice carbon fibre pattern would also tell more than a plain black…

The preview however is a different story…
a rainbow preview would never match what comes out of the printer, so why bother…
For multi colour prints though it does make a lot of sense to have the filament colours matching.
And AFIK Studio allows for this type of assignment.
Means you can define the filament colour for an AMS slot.
I abuse this for auto refill but using the same colour for the AMS assignment, allowing me to change a roll when empty even with a different colour.
Not ideal but a workaround.
So what would be ideal ? (For me anyway)

As said, give us a logo or such we can freely edit instead of filament colours so we actually know what is in which slot.
And then change this colour handling a bit to provide more freedom.
A bit like this:
User creates a new filament.
Assigns a name based on the brand and if need be type.
The allocation is completed with the logo/thumbnail.
This provides the BASIC information for the rolls in question, no matter colour.
When a spool is loaded the user assigns this definition to the corresponding AMS slot.
In Studio this AMS assignment can be synced and the use can add the colour for the filament that shall be used for previews and such, preferably with a little colour box next to the AMS assignments as it is now.
One other main change required would be filament calibration.
The current concept is just flawed IMHO.

Right now the K-factor is done based on just the loaded filament and changing rolls not always means these new rolls get their matching k-factor.
And same story for flow ratio, nozzle temp and such.
They are assigned to what Studio shows but not transferred to the AMS, let alone assigned to the filament in question.
A far better way would be to allow the user to create calibration profiles that get linked automatically based on the file names as done for ages with music and videos files to define resolution and other things.
E.g.: for freshly created filament supplier…
With the filament, AMS and Studio assignment sorted it would make sense to have the calibration values sorted as well.
Saving the calibration for a new filament should be a all in one experience.
Meaning all values are calibrated using provided routines and tests.
Assuring ALL factors will be calibrated as good as possible.
Then this data is saved for the filament in question - just not like it is done now.
Instead the data goes into a separate file with a meaningful name.
This auto generated name shall contain the reference to the filament maker, type and colour.
No problem to do this, so why not…
So whenever a user changes a roll of filament and the ignore features of the AMS are disabled it shall result in being asked what the maker, type and displayed colour shall be.
And if a matching calibration profile exists it shall be used.
If not the user shall be asked if an existing one should be imported and saved (like if the different colour won’t need a calibration change) or if a new one, including calibration shall be created.

If such changes would also be forwarded into the firmware handling we could finally just swap our (defined) rolls within seconds and without having to worry about vital values being messed up…
But as said, just my five cents worth for the never ending frustration…

Where is @BambuLab on this?

I have two filaments that are gray. I have one gray choice. Color choice should be RGB (255,255,255).

Does the lack of color choice affect other printers, models, brands? I have two X1C’s and I do not know. I just got a 2nd AMS on one printer and the need to know which colors are where without having to remember or walk to confirm would be very beneficial. Thanks.
