More focused contests are better

The general contests are just too broad in what they allow, and to me it then just dilutes the value of the contest. All of the current active contests have this issue.
Looking back at previous contests, to me the best ones were the more narrowly focused contests with less room for ‘creative’ interpretation of what would qualify as an entry.
I hope we will see more focused contests in the future that don’t leave so much wiggle room for people to interpret what is an acceptable entry and what isn’t.

Fully agree.

What would also be great, especially for more niche stuff, would be a contest focused on specific element. Like: there was a 0.2mm nozzle contest and I proposed that bambu ought to make 0.8 contest seeing as there’s almost nothing using that nozzle (and it could be used as a way to gauge profiles, maybe get better ones).

Also - seeing certain filaments made me imagine possible use so imagine a contest where you NEED to use certain filament. Or since the maker’s supply kits are very handy way of getting non-printed hw, why not make contests focused on one or several maker supply pre-made kits?

In other thread Malc made a good point of creating a contest for “generic” theme such as Christmas but explicitly forbid well known tropes. That would be great too.

I have a feeling people would complain due to the fact that you have to actually buy the kits. Or they wouldn’t buy them, and would just make guesses

If they did (which would be cool) they’d have to manually approve entries before they appeared on the contest page. Unrelated entries would be even more abundant than they are now.

If they made these contests more focused, that could also include contests for these well known tropes. 2d art contest, articulate-all-the-things contest, door corner contest, heck even an AI generated contest. Just keep all that stuff excluded from entry into the other contests.

plus the 5 entries per person really just welcomes the low quality junk :frowning: I think 2 entries should be max, in most contests you can only enter 1 and its your best
