Provided you use the same type of filaments so they bond together and do not wait too long between the printer pausing and you swapping materials, all should be fine.
- PLA needs to fuse with PLA
- ABS needs to fuse with ABS
- PETG needs to fuse with PETG
You cannot fuse these combinations just using the PAUSE command:
- PLA with ABS, PETG, TPU
- PETG with ABS, PLA, TPU
- ABS with PETG, PLA, TPU
- TPU with ABS, PETG, PLA
Essentially, a like-for-like match must be used.
I just uploaded this model in my series of Fidget Spinners.
It has 16 different print profiles and all versions that can be printed without an AMS have a print profile to facilitate that.
6 different PAUSE-based print profiles allow the user to swap colours when they get to a different layer by manual intervention and without an AMS available. The printer automatically PAUSES and the user can remove the existing spoll and swap it to another.
These include the 7-colour Rainbow profiles, the 6-colour Rainbow, the 5-colour stripes, the 3-colour edges & triple, and the 2-colour dual profile.
They work perfectly and fuse without issue.
You need a reasonable amount of surface area to allow the bond to hold. Text that isn’t too small should be fine though.
You can see this demonstrated in my Shoe Lace-charms which have a small back and the text is bonded to the top. All could be achieved using the PAUSE command.
