Multi-Window Auto Save / Recovery

I just had a power outage while working on 4 seperate instances of Studio, expecting to find them recovered when I got my power back.
Unfortunately it only recovered the instance which was last active among the 4, meaning all the work I had in the other 3 instances is just lost.

I dont understand why this works only with the active window. I tested this by opening 4 instances, each with one basic shape default settings, saved each to their own file and then moved the objects to a second plate before minimizing 3 of 4 instances, followed by me unplugging my still running PC.
And what would you guess got recovered of the 4?
Yeah, the one active window only… it didnt even auto save the changes for the other 3, i have it set to 10sec intervals just to be sure that I could minimize it before the interval triggers, while also keeping it open long enough to give all 4 a chance to update the position of the object..

Please fix this, it makes multi tasking projects not very safe unless your spamming Save every time you are switching windows.

Sorry to hear that! I’m not sure why it wouldn’t recover properly (a bug most likely).

However you can see if you may be able to recover the work yourself. You’re on Windows? I’ll assume so, for now…

You need to find the temporary directory where Studio saves the backups. On my Win PC, this is:

C:\Users\[my user name]\AppData\Local\Temp\bamboo_model

Everything up to “bamboo_model” (sic) is set by the operating system, usually where all the other temp files are kept for your user.

Inside the bamboo_model folder there should be a bunch of folders named by date. Most will be empty, but when Studio crashes (or gets unplugged :-), it doesn’t delete the temp files inside those folders. Find the date that seems most likely to still have your backups.

Inside there may be one or more folders that start with a time stamp, like “12_06_19”, followed by some # signs and other numbers.

And inside those folders, there should be a .3mf file (no name, just the extension). And that should be the full project file that was backed up.

I very much hope that helps! Let me know if any Qs.

Hey, thanks for letting me know.
I found the folders, but each of the cached folders inside the dates that exist, when launching their .3mf files, always launch with no geometry data.
Plus it only contains 2 of 4 projects in the first place of what was open, so 2 of them didnt seem to recieve auto saves regardless.

Any ideas why?

please help us w the fix,me and bro are in the same situation
