Created the AMS Lite enclosure, complete with viewing windows. Came out nice and seems to be doing an OK job so far!..
I did the viewing windows version as well. This thing is an amazing print and it works very well.
Are you still liking the AMS Lite enclosure? Do you actually find that it works at keeping the rolls fairly dry? Any problems? I’m thinking of making it but would like to be sure it actually works and is fairly easy to use. I change rolls a lot and am wondering how much of a hassle it is taking rolls out and putting new ones in. Also, I’m assuming this can work for both side & top mounted setups. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
I am still liking the AMS Lite enclosure. It works at keeping the rolls dry, you just have to remember to change out the desiccant if the humidity starts to rise on the hygrometer.
Spool removal can be a hassle if you forget to take the desiccant container out before you start. I have also printed out one of the spool removal tools, and that makes removal fairly easy even if I forget to pull the desiccant container first.
I have mine top mounted and even without the enclosure, getting to the back ones is a little harder than the front. If I had more room on my table that would not be an issue. I left the screw off of the top mount so that I can swivel the spools without dealing with the screw.
Thanks. I know it’s based on local humidity but how often do you have to change the desiccant? Are you changing spools a lot? I currently have the AMS Lite mounted to the side but am thinking of trying the top mount. But again, I’m a little concerned about the hassle of switching spools (both side & top mounted) since I do it often. I do try to keep my spools dry, regardless of filament type, and I have a boxing system with hygometers & desiccant. How do you like the top mount?
I have only had the change the desiccant once since I installed the enclosure.
I seem to change spools for every print. Unless I am printing the same thing again.
I like the top mount as it frees up room on the table for my filament dryers.
I find I have to change desiccant around once every 5-6 weeks. Otherwise it certainly does help in controlling humidity inside the enclosure.
I also use the spool removal tool to remove any spools - making sure the desiccant holder comes out first though (I usually change the desiccant at this point TBH). It’s a bit of a chore changing spools, especially if you do it regularly. I’m actually considering removing the enclosure though. Reason being, I find myself looking at a model, and then forcing myself to use the colours I already have loaded in the enclosure just because they are there and ready. Maybe it’s out of laziness! So I’m considering removing the enclosure and then placing spools on the AMS as and when I need them - removing them and bagging them up in air tight bags after use. The loading and unloading is easy enough so I don’t think it would be such a hassle. I only really use PLA so shouldn’t impact my prints too much.
The loading on my Prusa MMU3 is much more of a hassle, so I keep 5 spools loaded there - may use my Bambu a little more flexibly though…
Do you find any extra wobble etc from the top mount??
No, but I also printed the stabilizers that are included with the top mount. The Bambu Lab version.
I made mine out of PLA and it does not seem to work…they hydro showing the same humidity for both inside and outside. Does the PTEG cause that mu h difference?
Well I felt PLA was best as it is the less absorbing material out of all, which felt fitting for an enclosure? I used PLA for everything in the end, even the clips. All works well and I have a clear difference of around 50% when it comes to external/internal humidity.
Did you print the version with windows? Either way it seems you may have a gap somewhere letting in too much external air.
I really do need the top mount. It’s just the wobbling and stories of spools falling off of the AMS that concern me.
Then again, I’ll be using with the enclosure so that shouldn’t be an issue……
There is a version with an entire separate stand structure that fits behind the printer that looks more solid too….
