My basic A1 mini squeezed for space setup

Hi everyone,

I was commenting in an alt thread on the requirements of a very heavy surface to prevent vibration and printing issues, and decided to throw up a quick thread to not only talk about what I was going on about - but to show a quick and dirty setup appropriate for a living room when you can’t import granite blocks or steal your kitchen counters. ha.

From alt thread slightly edited for context :

The best setup ever to sit a 3d printer on?. You go buy a huge slab of granite or marble and sit the printer on that. The end. But none of us have 4 ton chain hoists in our living rooms, so next best is a huge rock. no giant rock? ok, stacked 16x16 patio pavers, that kind of thing alone (go to the dollar store and get those anti-skid rubber hole matt rolls for lining and your spoons dont fly everywhere? place that between the bricks when stacking), again most of us cant do this putting 20 bricks in our living rooms I get it, so → down the weight line you go…heavy furniture like a 200lb+ desk, the single paver underneath yada yada… until you eventually reach…a folding card beach table from walmart that will literally have trouble holding the weight of the printer, ha!"

So being a living room here, and ZERO hoists for slabs… AND it being a stupid (luckily heavy in the process) glass table I cannot insert a paver here it would shatter the glass. Joy… so instead I loaded the base with a heavy server and printer that barely squeezed into the bottom space.

I can still feel floor vibrations slightly on fast fast movements in the other room 20ft away but it is so minimal and silent (38db btw!) that most visits have no idea it’s there or running and it goes on chugging through the night without vibrating the entire house, glasses and dishes in the kitchen clink rattling…annoying bah. these things move so fast!

If there was no glass surface a patio paving stone for 3 bucks would be inserted there along with 1 more rubber anti slip pad between everything and voila. there would be 0 vibrations at all as the unit is 3-4 times the weight and solid VS the A1 mini’s weight. The blue rubber tpu feet I removed recently as they -added- vibrations to the print causing some ghosting lines.

@Simon_Boucher just a link to not clutter your thread and show you what I was jabbering on about in my tired evening (apologies!)
