My Experience using X1CC without ANY prior 3d Print Experience

Hello,
I am completely new to 3D printing. I had zero knowledge of how to 3D print. I got interested in this because my sister started printing things and I really liked the idea of making things. She suggested this brand as an appliance as to the other 3D printers that you need to tinker with.

I got the printer about a week ago. It was packed very well. I didn’t break anything taking it out of the box which is a plus. Lots of tape of everything! Plus foam in areas I didnt think of checking. I did Lots of research on how to unpack and setup this thing on youtube. I had no problems following the steps. It took me about 1 hour and 30 mins to finish unpacking and setting up everything and ready to print my 1st print ever. The Benchy. This included glue sticking the plate and Wifi/AMS/Callbrate setup.

The Benchy looked absolutely perfect to me. But I am a super novice so wht looks good to me might not be good to a pro. I then printed a scrapper and tool box for my new stuff. Those all look really really good to me. At this point I felt like a pro even though I was just hitting buttons and the Bambu was doing all the work.

I then got bold enough to do more things. I wanted to try this Silk Silver PLA and Black PLA from SunLu. I added them as generic PLA. I then downloaded a model I saw on youtube of a model TieFighter. I messed up. I tried printing and it said that my first layer failed. It gave some suggestions. Once said that the plate is too dirty. I took a look at the plate and scrapped off everything. I then cleaned it with soap and water. I then added glue stick. I put the plate back on and tried again and it worked! Everything looked great. The only problem was the Silk Pla on the wings blobbed here and there. I dunno if it was the model or the filament. However the other parts that used the silk pla looked perfect to me. I put the model together and it looks awesome!

I did another model Baby Yoda. This time I tried to mult-color printing. It worked very nice except for the hands. The print came out perfect, however with the finger nail on the hand the color changes were very very short. It caused the ams to BUZZ very loudly and needed help on retraction for the spool. I had to sit there and help it for awhile. I dont know why… Maybe because it over heated because of all the quick color changes? Lots of filament lost too. I should have taken a video of it. If it happens again I will. Put the Print came out perfect!

If you are new to printing, this is a great printer. However, the one problem I see is that now I don’t understand things like temperature towers and how to set that up and tune for it. Or how to fine tune settings for filament. Is this something I need to learn how to do? Or is this something bambu will come out with. IE have more setting and setup for known 3rd party brands like Sunlu?

Thanks all, my experience have been very very positive!!!

I would suggest not worrying about temperature towers for now. The idea is to figure out what the optimum print temperature is for a specific filament, but the towers don’t accurately represent how the Bambu prints. With my older printers, I did temp towers a lot, but have not felt the need to do it with the X1C. The X1C does some self-calibration for filament flow (unless you disable that on a per-print basis), and I’ve found that works well enough.

Welcome to the hobby, and just enjoy printing - the X1C takes a lot of the stress away! (Just read through Facebook groups for the Ender printers to see how aggravating it can be when starting out using a low-end printer.)

As for the AMS issue, I have found that some spools give the AMS a hard time with the rollers trying to retract the spool. Sometimes it just needs a little nudge.

This has been my first printer and I am thrilled with my experience thus far. I love that everything just works, which allows me to learn about different material temps, speeds, and supports rather than trying to troubleshoot other nonsense. Personally would recommend this printer to any.

My first printer, too. I’m loving this new hobby.

Absolute novice here as well. Had ZERO 3D printing experience prior to this and was lucky enough to be recommended this model by a colleague who’s had extensive experience with 3D printing.

As per my post in another thread, I almost feel guilty having this printer as my first and stuff just working - without the general setup and other pains associated with other printers. I’m not denying that there’s a lot of knowledge to gain from building your own DIY kit (or similar) and knowing exactly part does what NOR am I saying the X1 is perfect. But the end result I believe is a very polished product ready for the masses which lets people concentrate more on the design aspect rather than worrying about fabrication/printing process.

Just my 2c as a very happy first-time user.
