My model has been removed from the Marble Run Design Contest。
The reason is that it does not fit the theme of the competition. This is the explanation given to me by the MW official, which really confuses me.
In order to participate in the Marble Run competition, I started brainstorming and designing the model more than a week in advance. Before participating in the competition, I carefully read the competition instructions, (make world)we want you to think outside the box and jump out of conventional thinking when it comes to designing Marble Run tracks,
Therefore, I designed this small warrior model that can shoot marbles for two reasons. The first reason is that when I saw a pinball competition, I thought of a similar toy that could shoot marbles when I was a child (a warrior). This toy was once a classic childhood toy for many Chinese children born between 1980 and 1990 (I was one of them), carrying memories of the same year, and now it is difficult to buy this toy. The model I designed can help my peers relive their childhood memories. The second reason is that I don’t want to create a fixed marble track that is uniform over a thousand times. The marble must move within a tangible track. Why can’t marbles move in a virtual orbit? For example, moving in an intangible air orbit, of course I know there may be some far fetched implications here, but since the competition instructions hope that we think outside the box and jump out of conventional thinking when it comes to designing Marble Run tracks, why does my air orbit not comply with the competition rules? It’s really confusing, I hope MW official can help me clarify.
The following are the replies and comments I received on the MW China website for this Pinball Warrior model. In just two days, I received over a dozen comments and replies, and many people expressed their love for this Pinball Warrior model and said that it evoked their memories. The comments are still increasing. I wonder if friends from countries other than China have also played with this toy
Thanks for your reply, it gave me hope. Because I am really confused about this issue, after all, I have seen other model makers uploading models in the competition, some of which are even just spheres. Of course, I am not saying that their models are not good or do not conform to the competition theme. I believe that anything related to marbles should be considered to conform to the competition theme, Besides Marble Run we also need marbles and devices for launching marbles
Hi, we appreciate you pointing the issue out. You model should be reinstated into the contest and we believe it fits quite well with our contest theme. Sorry for the prior mistake.
Hope to see more of your amazing works in our community!
I can see your model is back (Marble Warrior by 建模师Fu - MakerWorld). However, what I am missing is a description of the model. The one sentence, which is given there, does not explain anything. I assume, I can press somewhere to make the ball be flipped out, but I do not know it. Furthermore, I don’t see an assembly instruction.
It might be, that these are the reasons why your model was kicked out (or reported and than kicked out?).
While they did, Please write longer description and explain more in the model itself. You’ve written waaaaaaaay longer post than model description and it would be great for people not knowing about chinese toy from 80’s and 90’s to have the opportunity to learn about that. I honestly agree with @Fr33lab on:
Honestly I dont think this fits in the criteria well at all. It is not a generic marble contest, this is a marble run contest. Everything in the criteria states that they are wanting marble run tracks, not just anything related to marbles.
You highlights the irrelevant bit of the sentence ‘thinking outside of the box’ because it must be paired with the end of that when it comes to designing marble run tracks. Your model is not a marble run track, or a component related to a marble run track. Just the fact that it can launch a marble doesn’t mean much since practically it would not be easy to use this as part of a real marble run.
Not trying to be harsh or anything, just, I can’t see any argument here that it should be part of the contest when it has nothing to do with marble run tracks which is the theme.
For this contest, we want you to think outside the box and jump out of conventional thinking when it comes to designing Marble Run tracks. Not only are we looking for more sophisticated and elaborated standing Marble Run tracks, we also encourage participants to submit designs that are novel and original:
Tracks that can be suspended on the wall via diverse mechanisms
Tracks that adhere to glasses by means of Sunction Caps
Tracks that can cling to fridges with the assistance of Magnets
Yeah, I have to agree with this. In my opinion it’s not a marble run. It’s cool, and it is marble related, but it’s not a marble run. Perhaps if you added some more theme-related elements it would be a really unique entry, but as-is I don’t think it fits.
I agree. That’s a good marble game, but not a marble run game. But MW has decided to reinstate, so it looks like the theme has been expanded to include any game involving marbles.
I just thought of a genius idea: How about a box for marbles? It won’t need any specific grooves or anything so it’ll be compatible with all marbles If anyone wants to use this idea feel free, just give me credit
