My new H2S Seems to be a downgrade from my X1Cs

Recently received my H2S with my new AMS Pro 2 and AMS HT and thought it would be a lot more exciting but it wasn’t.

My X1C has the Micro Lidar and the display has a Micro-SD Slot. The H2S has a USB Port on the Top and you need to purchase a low profile USB Flash Drive that is low profile so you don’t snap it off when you load and unload filament from the top of the AMS Pro2 or HT.

I printed a benchy and a few other calibration testing prints and compared them with my X1C. The X1C prints took less time and looked better (I only printed a single color for the test). I ran the calibration again on the H2S and tried again but got the same results.

My X1C has a nice handle on it that allows for each access to the build plate and is also used for holding my scraper. The H2S has a really small handle for the bigger door so I printed and extension (but it really should have had a bigger handle to begin with).

Anyone else scratching their head as to why they still haven’t included a network port. I can get anetgear 5-port gigabit switch off amazon for $15.99. I’m sure with the number of printers they produce it would costs them maybe a couple of bucks ( I would pay an extra $20 for a Gigabit Ethernet port instead of waiting for the print to be uploaded via a wireless network).

While I think the bigger Build Plate is a plus I don’t really see this printer as much of an upgrade.

I’m really happy with the new AMS Pro 2 and AMS HTs. They are definitely a step up (except for the fact you can’t keep the filament drying while you’re printing).

After this experience with the H2S, I don’t think I’ll gamble on a H2D and I don’t think the H2C is the right path for the future of 3D Printing.

I think the PRUSA Core with the 8 Nozzle changer is on the right path. The Snapmaker U1 and the PRUSA XL with the Tool Changers is nice but I think just having a nozzle swapper minimizes the technical connections having to be made and the extra costs of multiple tool heads.

Its nice to see more competition and ideas advancing this technology forward and look forward to seeing what’s coming next.

It’s certainly better to have a microsd slot. Common usb drives are made with bottom of barrel nand chips and it’s not easy or cheap to find high endurance usb drives like you can with microsd cards. Although maybe a microsd to usb adapter will work.

The lack of ethernet is just product segmentation, so that they could sell the h2d pro at double the price for those with strict requirements and deep pockets.

The biggest disappointment with the H2 series for me is the plastic side panels. The aluminium side panels of the X1C has a much more premium feel and lower emissivity compared to plastic allows better retention of chamber heat.

Haa! I didn’t realize the sides of my X1C were aluminum. Looking at my X1C and H2S at the same time, I figured they were the same.

I didn’t realize the H2S didn’t have a uSD slot. It must have some internal memory. I haven’t had it but a few days, but it has all the prints I have done in non-volatile memory.

I always transfer prints wireless through the cloud and back to the printer flawlessly, so I never think of doing it via SD card or thumb drive. That was kind of a dumb place to put the USB socket. I do not know if I will use it, but I will look for a low profile USB drive. Is there a use for it other than manually transferring prints to the H2S. Will it add to the amount of models the printer can remember?

So far, my H2S has printed pretty much flawlessly, as good as my X1C. I printed the same model on my H2S and my K2 Plus. Both prints were very good, although I give the edge to H2S. The part from the H2S looks slightly better near the top.

About aluminum vs plastic sides, plastic is better if retaining heat is the goal.

The USB on the H2S is for storing you prints do you can pull them up from the screen and also for saving your Timelapse Video if you enable it on the device.

My reasoning is that unless there is significant airflow outside of the printer, most of the panel heat loss will occur through radiation rather than conduction to outside air. The aluminium panels have lower emissivity than the plastic panels which will result in less heat radiated.

But maybe I’m wrong I don’t have any evidence about this and didn’t find anyone else that has done a comparison in this regard between the X1C and P1S.

Emissivity is a drop in the ocean here. The conductivity of aluminium is several orders of magnitude higher than plastic. It plays more of a role than emissivity, if it didn’t, plain aluminium cups would hold heat better than plastic.

With the X1C, the outside of the printer will be nearly the same temperature as the inside. For the H2S, it will be lower. Thus, the heat loss via radiation and conduction will be significantly lower for the H2S/plastic panels
