When I got my X1C Prusa just had the XL out but delivery took a very long time. I needed a good printer to make parts and my prusa mk2 was not up to the task anymore.
Being able to use 4 filaments in one print made that I could do things that were first not possible. And so I made some unique products and some inventions too that would not have been possible with a normal printer.
The X1C has some downsides too:
-The x/y scaling is off, I need to scale my models by err=170/169.4; scale([err,err,1]) { … }
-I can not use different materials like conductive and petg in one print
-There is only real support for bambu filaments
-Bambu is not supported in slicers like cura (Someone tried to make a profile)
-I like to print BIG
-When changing filament a lot of filament is lost. I have thrown out buckets and buckets of filament in the trash. Printing small multi filament components with expensive conductive filament is very costly.
I will probably keep the X1C on to print something simple quickly because it is a darn fast printer. The complicated stuff will move to the Prusa XL.
This part is silly and not true, i use any filament i can find and it runs just fine … I would love to get a prusa with multi heads one day unless someone else comes up with a similar or better option, but the price point is not for the everyday hobbyist
I like the Idea and concept of the Prusa XL with 5 heads. The larger build size is a plus, and the 5 different heads allows for cut down on filament waste and time wasted between color changes. But that is all it has going for it right now. It is ridiculously over priced, the system has problems I have head a lot of people that have the 5 head or even just a extra head all saying the same thing. The printer jams up because when it goes to switch heads for filaments it misaligns with causes it to jam up. With means that each head isn’t able to freely print on it’s own. I believe I have seen add on like the caret as well as a few others that already offer that. So it isn’t worth the money, plus add the fact that you could have a 3d printer with multiple heads that print at the same time I would call the Prusa XL with 5 heads a fail. Honestly you would be better off with 5 heads that are all independent and able to print on there own.
You know you can control this to at least cut down on how much purge is done.
Orca is just fine for a BL printer. Offers features BS doesn’t. Not sure how much more Cura would offer as I’ve never been fond of it.
As already pointed out, this is simply wrong. Not only do profiles for other brands exist but they are also fairly easy to create. Additionally the BL profiles for PLA work well with “generic brands” as does, well the generic profile. At the very least the generic gives you a place to start if you need to fine tune.
I haven’t used conductive, but you can use different flavors of PLA, PETG, ABS with themselves, as well as with what other filament types they work with.
Don’t doubt this, but I’ve seen that the XL has some growing pains and print issues of it’s own. It’s interesting you don’t list the cons of the XL. To each his own though.
Probably not as costly as a 5 head XL. Seems a silly thing to highlight given the flex of owning a 5 head XL.
This reads more like a troll or felx post than anything else. In the end you do you. It’s cool you’re enjoying it and I hope it does well for you. Just remember the XL isn’t aimed at the X1 or the P1, kind of an apples to oranges comparison.
