My new X2D combo is the worst printer I have ever owned
…and I have spent countless hours late at night trying to fix everything, but the issues remain anyway.
You would think that for $2100 NZD (1181.59 USD) (plus $100 NZD shipping) it would be an amazing printer, but it had already started breaking down at just 150 hours, when they’re literally built to last tens of thousands of hours. I have taken extremely good care of it, as i have with all my previous machines.
I started with an A1 mini as my first printer, and tuned the heck out of it when I got a capable laptop, but I quickly outgrew it and moved on to a P1S, but as you can guess, I was fed up with the crappy nozzle wiper and outdated firmware, and upgraded again to this problematic reminder that even if you take perfect care of a machine, it can, and sometimes will, crap out, for no reason at all.
The machine in question:
And here are all its issues:
-
The top surfaces are horrible, whether ironing is on or off, and I have done all the calibrations, and ironing tests so it frankly has zero excuse for being this bad.
-
The prints warp and peel off the bed all the time, even after thoroughly cleaning with dish soap and isopropyl alcohol.
-
the AMS 2 pro stopped working, with an error message saying that there is too much resistance, and the message occurred across all four slots, so I took it apart and loosened the filament hub assistance motor casing screw, and it didn’t fix the issue. (note: photo was taken after i accidentally disassembled the sensor with the four rare neodymium magnets.)
-
The “External Exhaust fan certification” fails during each print causing me to have to switch my printer off at the back for 5 minutes before each use, otherwise it renders the whole unit useless, i have tried unplugging the cable and all that too, but it still happens regularly.
-
The error message: “Failed to extrude the filament. Please check the assistant for more details.” briefly appeared when i was testing the AMS a second time to make sure i wasn’t going insane, and it also appeared when i used the external spool, but after a fiddly manual cold pull and an hour of tweaking stuff, it went away and i have not had it occur again.
-
And lastly the most common issue I have faced is the dreaded “filament spool may be stuck or tangled” error message, (see image below) which is the one that kills overnight prints, literally pops up every 2 layers! (unfortunately not exaggerating) and it still pops up even though the filament can spin freely, in either my AMS or on the external spool holder and there are no tangles, I have adjusted the PTFE tubes length to try and fix the issue, but it didn’t help much and the error is still common. The filament buffer also has no jams, I checked.
I have been extremely loyal to Bambu, but this, (plus everything else) has made me regret it immensely, along with their horrible customer service that never says anything more than their automated response; “We will keep you updated.” after submitting a ticket before being ignored.
Unfortunately due to a very complicated situation I am in, means I cannot legally sell this machine, and get rid of the dang thing, but believe me, I definitely would if I had the option to, and I will not elaborate further, but I felt the need to state my situation because I can see how the “sell the stupid machine already!” comments would otherwise be coming like a landslide!
