As someone who has had an X1C for over 2 years now I thought it was time to upgrade.
Some of you may ask why I didn’t opt for the H2D and its because from personal experience with a Raise3D pro3 dual nozzle printer, I am just not a fan of dual nozzle printers, a lot of maintenance work.
Anyways, here are my thoughts as follows on the H2S, both in depth and surface level.
- I like that the space underneath the build plate is flush with the door opening - unlike on the X1C. If I am not explaining that well just know that its much easier to remove the small scraps of filament from underneath the build plate as you don’t need a small ramp print to get the scraps over any lip of the doorway.
- I was really surprised at the amount of noise it made in regards to the small lever on the side which gets flipped during the initial print start process - I am still not really sure what that is for…
- Setting it up was definitely an ordeal, tons of foam pieces (as a tip if you’re setting yours up, if you think you got all the foam out, you probably didn’t so pull out a flashlight to be able to see better because the small foam pieces like to hide in the shadows of the alcoves of the printer.
- The purge chute seems to open and close when needed - I am also not sure of the purpose of that…
- Its huge compared to my X1C. I had to move my X1C to my desk as it couldn’t fit next to the H2S on my printer cart. I have yet to print anything huge but having a 2nd printer that can print larger items is great.
- Its very heavy, so maybe if you’re setting yours up you can partially set it up on the ground to the point of removing the AMS from the inside and then get someone to help you move the printer to its final location.
- While setting it up I had an extruder error which was weird since the print head couldn’t have been clogged and it purged just fine. This issue went away when I removed the filament (Polymaker PLA) and then tried printing with Bambu PLA basic. After that printed successfully I put the Polymaker PLA back in and was able to successfully print with that.
- I like that the light bar underneath the build plate acts like a print status bar, so you can see at a glance as you walk by the status of the print time.
- I like the sounds it makes when the print is done, or there is an error with the print - I just wish that you could schedule the times when the sound is muted vs when it is not muted.
- Print quality of course is great.
Things that I wish were different
- I wish the power cord was longer
- I wish it came with a partial roll of filament like my H1C did (I have tons of filament, I just remember enjoying hearing about what color people were getting back when everyone was getting X1Cs).
- I wish it came with a dual sided build plate, one side textured and one side smooth.
Things I have printed and am working on so far with the new printer:
- Inserts for my dad’s old stool in the garage. The old ones were degraded and falling apart so I carefully measured the scraps and remodeled them and they fit perfectly on the first try (although that could be attributed to my amazing skills in 3D modeling and my degree in mechanical engineering…)
- Status flags for my desk at work (I will upload a picture later) I modeled them like the room flags you see at the doctor’s office so people know where I am when they come looking for me and I am not at my desk.
- Currently working on a joint measurement tool for as a favor for someone who works in Occupational Therapy
- Benchy boat (duh)
- couple various fidget toys
Things I plan to do but have yet to try on the H2S:
- Printing with TPU
- Printing with a material besides PLA
