N00b question - Bambu Studio disconnected after sleep

I’m sure this is a really basic question but I’ve not been able to find an answer… sorry.

I have an X1C and latest Bambu Studio running on macOS. All fine. Printing going well and having fun.

The issue is simple: I’ll often leave long prints going over night etc. But after waking the Mac from sleep, Bambu Studio will always see the X1C as being offline / can’t connect. ‘Device cannot be found’ etc. If I close Bambu Studio and reopen it then it will immediately find it.

Is there a way to force Bambu Studio to refind/reconnect to the X1C without closing / opening? No amount of clicking around in BS seems to force it to try and reconnect.

I experience the same thing with my Mac. If the computer goes to sleep, Bambu Studio cannot see the printer anymore, and no amount of “Refresh” works. I have to save the project, close the app, and upon restarting the app it connects instantly. Its really frustrating.

Same with me. And I’ve also never found a way to get it to reconnect. I can even use the dead window and choose file - new window and the new window that opens will connect with no problem but the original dead window open at the same time still won’t reconnect.

And for something that seems so benign, it is incredibly frustrating. My Mac goes to sleep pretty quickly and it’s not uncommon at all for me to have to open a new BS window 15 times or even more during a really long print.

I do not have this issue, getting my Mac to recognise the screen after it wakes, is a different thing. Somewhere around 50/50 on that.

I have a Mac Mini 2018 top of the range running Ventura.

At least I’m not going mad and it’s not just me. Does seems like a pretty basic issue.

I also have the exact same issue, new Mac with all the latest OS software, as well as Bambu Studio.

I will check if there is a way to do a bug report, with a link to this thread.

I have this issue as well and the only thing I can do to get around it is log out and log back in which is super annoying.

Same here on a 15 inch M3 MacBook Air. Very annoying!

same here, m4 macbook, annoying, also sometimes random crashes after hitting print too

The same for me. Mac OS Sequoia 15.0.1, P1S, BambuStudio 2.0.1.50. I noticed that sometimes Studio keeps connection to the printer after Mac wakes up, sometimes it doesn’t. I can’t see the pattern, but it is so annoying:(

Same issue with m,e and it’s SOOOooo maddening lol!!! 2022 M2 Mac mini running the latest os and Bambu Studio software. This has only been going on for maybe 6 or 7 months for me, something like that. It did NOT used to due this, even if I put my mac to sleep

Same here with a MacBook Air M1. Very annoying to always restart the macOS app :frowning:

Well, I certainly discourage this “solution”… logging-out and logging-in just wiped all my customized settings from the print profile I was working on, no warning.

There REALLY needs to be a “retry” button for failing to connect to the server, or some actionable output for why it believes it can’t connect. Logging-out/logging-in does get it reconnected without reopening the program, but unexpectedly nuking all profile tweaks (orange text in the settings panel) ain’t a great side-effect.

And yeah, still a problem with the 2.2.0.60 beta. Sleep the Mac overnight, open it up the next day to continue, and “failed to connect to the server”… need to restart the bleepin’ program.

I’ve been having the same issue for some time now. Very frustrating. It would be helpful if there was a “restore last session” option when closing and opening BambuStudio. Not all of my projects need to be saved.

Just found a potential workaround.

  1. Device page
  2. Click your printer name (e.g. 3DP-000-111) to expand it, showing “My device”, 3DP-000-111, “Bind with pin code”, “Bind with access code” options)
  3. Click your printer name in the list below (under "My Device) to select it (3DP-000-111)

Just like that, it seems like it reconnects. Maybe it was coincidence? But the second I clicked it, “can’t connect to the server” disappeared and it went back to normal.

Think you got lucky… didn’t work for me.

What’s strange is that going to the status page, I can click play on the camera and it will load. I can go to storage and browse the SD card etc. I guess these are done over the local network.

So it seems to be the connection between the printer and the cloud service, and no amount of clicking around in the Studio (for me) has forced it to reconnect.

Ah, heck. There has to be some way to re-trigger “hey dummy, go check for the server again!” in lieu of a simple “retry” button… it seems like it sometimes? retries connection, at least?

That was an awful fast validation, too… I wonder how many hundreds of people a day are running into this ridiculous issue that could be solved with just one simple “retry” button. Something to actively tell it “hey. you didn’t have internet 30 seconds ago, because the computer was asleep. Now you do. Here it is. Go connect”.
