Near-entanglements - avoidable?

I often experience issues with near-entanglements during longer prints. See image. Most of the time, the printer continues to pull the filament out, but sometimes it stops. Is there any way to avoid this issue? I don’t think it’s due to badly wound spools (sunlu).

i made a little tool comparable to the ones for the ams and ams 2 pro, works great.

Do you have a link or picture?

The only time I ever had a tangle, was when I wasn’t careful when taking off a spool of filament, it unraveled and I didn’t check it carefully enough when I clipped the loose end to make sure it hadn’t looped on itself. I never had a brand new spool tangle.

I have had tangles on 3 out of the 4 spools of Creality filament I have used. I do not believe it is operator error as it was on long prints with fresh spools that happened late into the print.

That is strange. I have except for the 4 matte BLs spools all of my other filament spools are Creality PLA and PLA high speed and I have not had any problems. I have been using Creality because I though is was a good brand. I still have a was to go on some of the spools, I will keep an eye out. Thanks for the warning.

That’s definitely a frustrating thing to see! It’s good you caught it before it became a bigger problem.

The most common cause of entanglements is actually a simple habit: when you unload the filament, always make sure to secure the loose end in one of the small holes on the spool. If the filament is allowed to unspool even a little bit, it can loop underneath itself and cause a huge tangle. A small habit can save you a lot of headaches!
