Need advice for a noob about print quality

I bought A1 mini yesterday and its a my first printer.
So don’t hit too hard for stupid questions
I printed several first models using pla.
And I ran into a small problem. I printed a miniature vase. And I can’t understand the reason of this defects. What can it be? What can be reason of this artifacts? At the same time, the other side of the vase looks great.

With the issues on one side and not the other, you are near the edge on something.

Is the A1 Mini enclosed? Air currents or a fan can cause temperature issues that can affect printing.

Moisture in the filament can do it too even if the filament is fresh out of a new box/bag.

Those are the big ones but others may have other insights.

hmm… I’m learning new words. like “retraction”

Yeah to me it looks like you need to dry your filament as even when you just opened it it can still have absorbed enough moisture to make the print quality a lot worse

What material are you using (PLA, PETG, etc), which filament did you select when you added it to the printer?

The A series printers are not enclosed.

Thanks. But I turned on retraction in filament settings and next vase was completely perfect. I heard retraction is on by default in cura for example…

It could actually be that your problem is related to wet filament, which can cause small defects in the print. But a more likely cause, especially if only one side of the vase is affected, could be the timelapse function of your printer. When this is enabled, the print head moves to the left after each layer for a “snapshot”. This can cause small pieces of filament to get stuck on the nozzle, which then get melted onto the vase when printing continues, causing the defects. Check that the timelapse function is turned on and try to do a print without it to see if the problem still occurs.

When you send a print job in Bambu Studio, you can turn the timelapse function off there.

Hm, interesting… It could be true, may be i really turned off timelapse together adding retraction. Thanks for your advise. I will try to find out it, may be its actually not about retraction.

I had similar issues and this has been a useful thread, will look into drying my filament.
