Should I upload my model as mine or as a variation in the original of the maker:
I looked at the download of a model of a needle container to start from scratch in FreeCAD to create a much larger one that suits the dimensions I want.
The model looks as good as the same; only much wider. I could not simply resize the original one in Studio because the thickness of the walls would grow too much also.
I would post it as your own. OK you got the idea from someone else but it’s a generic model which I’m sure many exist. If it were a one of a kind very engineered model which you stole the design, I would say post it as a remix but a needle container…
Now, if it is exactly the same, that’s debatable but why post it at all? I often modify existing design to suit my needs but generally keep it for myself
I’m saying post photos - anything else is just guesswork, because it could be anything from simply inspired to outright copied. The range is too broad to judge without photos.
The topic is so complex that it’s almost impossible to cover without photos. Who knows exactly how you copied the design, or not?
Also, does the original creator allow remixes? That is the far more essential question.
I think it’s sufficient to include a photo of the 3D model that inspired you and maybe the link - and then a photo of your own 3D model, too. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the print.
You seem to have overlooked the licensing question by the way. What kind of license is associated with the original model?
Maybe the model is so generic that it doesn’t affect you at all.
