New Bambu studio update

I noticed the same thing wants to authenticate a printer that has no pin or authentication code…

No problems, what so ever, printing from the latest version of Orca.
Just sayin…

We don’t use orca slicer. With the updates, I don’t think it’s going to be a feasible option in the future.

you might want to reconsider applying any firmware updates in the near future, or at least until such time when it becomes clearer what really are Bambu’s intentions with the existing machines (not concerned at this time about the next gen printer).

We haven’t accepted any of the updates to studio and the printers.
It’s particularly odd that we are suddenly having issues, given the sh1tstorm that Bambu has recently had over potentially draconian changes.

Switch to LAN mode only, make sure you’re off the internet, and see how and if it works. If not, the only option I can think for now is submitting a ticket (with all logs and evidence you could gather) to Bambu. If they help you (somehow) to solve the problem, do let us know how it was done. I’m really curious as to what has triggered this sh.it.

Not related to authorization, but ever since the update Online Models show on my home screen even though the box is unchecked. If I recheck and uncheck the box under preferences, they go away. But they show back up the next time I open studio, even though the box is unchecked.

Mostly it’s just annoying.

Updated (again) and as usual no issues. Thanks Bambu

There seems to be a bit of confusion in regards to the latest updates…
If you checked my posts and topics from the past in regards to update issues you know what I think already…

Let me try to summarise a bit and then explain how to avoid most, if not all headaches after a firmware and/or Studio update.

Summary

For me it ALWAYS was a nightmare updating just Studio and for the firmwares I was quite reluctant as well and for the same reasons.
No matter what I tried, updating meant I struggled with my old 3MF files, my calibrations and only too often my custom filaments.
Exporting it all before updating helps a lot as you only need to import it all again after the update.
Sadly I noticed that not even this is always working out.
Sometimes defaults you never touched or that you adjusted big time get changed.
Don’t know why but Bambu seems to struggle to get the priorities correct here.
Some setting import as expected while others change a few settings here and there.
No real consistency.
Biggest issue however was constantly having to re-enter the access code or getting error messages that my print file did not make it - how nasty after waiting 10 minutes for this big file to get onto the printer LOL
For a very long time and maybe still for good reason I kept blaming Bambu for all my misery - like everyone else does after an update goes wrong.
Of course I also kept compensating for what happened, kept adjusting settings, kept swearing all day because I kept wasting way too much time on things that should just work.
My nightmares changed when I tried to make my custom filaments stick…

For obvious reasons someone not using Bambu filaments because they can’t use a reliable shipping service, custom filament profiles become quite vital.
Imagine you ‘just’ want to change a custom filament to one that Bambu ‘supports’ in the usual selection areas - how hard can it be ??
VERY…
I got about as far as having had to start over twice because at one point or another Studio would just bombard me with useless and confusing error messages.
Turned out it all relies on the grandfather principle.
Meaning it all starts from a single default profile on which the rest builds up and keeps linking back to.
So you check to what ID your custom filament refers to.
Check that profile for ID’s and such and whether the link or include other ID and profiles you have to adjust.
Eventually you made it all the way back to one default profile and can’t go further.
Imagine several Notepad++ sessions with comparative screens to find ID’s in god knows how many files, do what needs doing and NOT confuse yourself along the way…
Took notes in the hopes I could automate it all once I worked out the kinks - oh well, we can dream…
Long story short it just did not work, despite trying my best.
Some files get a hash check and if it does not match Studio just reverts those files back…
Not to mention trying to change config files and forcing Studio NOT to change resulting in lots of ‘unrelated’ issues…

More blah blah and why all is better now than it ever was (**for me**)

Eventually I bit the bullet and decided that if not VM’s help to work out how it can be done I do it from scratch.
Did so on an old laptop so I can still keep using my printer with a working Studio version.
To my utter surprise none of the problems I kept having happened…
Well, apart from Bambu not really liking two systems with Studio working with the same printer, you have to be careful not to use them together…
Old laptop is fine while good PC with an updated Windows always seems to struggle…
Coincidence ? Not really…
Like other programs Studio does not really comes with a sophisticated installer/uninstaller.
Plain deleting by file list or folder list will do fine.
Reverting registry values before installing the new version seems optional as well.
Bambu really used the easiest (for them) way possible.
Do it Cloud Only and Only their way and things work out just fine.
Do it locally in Lan Only and with so really no need for the cloud and BP/BS calling home to find each other and you might be doomed.
So how to do it the Bambu way and what’s the alternative ?

Use the cloud…
Keep your account stuff synced…
Make sure you log out of your account for printer and Studio before updating…
After the update sync it all by logging back into the cloud…
sounds easy enough, doesn’t it…
And it is without custom filaments and profiles to consider, well was…
With the new firmware and Studio able to actually handle custom filaments and their calibration factors the cloud way seems more tempting then ever.
But you can still just export what matters and import it back once all is updated.
For the fully manual way you need to export things of course.
But installing Studio without the cloud ready can be tricky.
Why?
Because you have to somehow do this while making sure Studio and Handy won’t sync with something from your old days before you left the cloud behind you.
If in doubt double check before trying to import your things and remove/delete what came from the cloud during the update and synchronisation.
If you don’t log into your account during or after the Studio installation you should be fine though.

Software VS FIRMWARE…
Can you use a new Studio version with an older printer firmware?
You certainly can but it does not mean it will work as advertised.
Be it features that rely on firmware changes or just how Studio communicates with the printer - eventually there is too many things that are no longer supported by the firmware.
It is best to use matching Studio/firmware versions…
Which brings the problem of features and bug fixes…
You can’t have both all new things and improvements and an outdated firmware on the printer.
Take Netflix as a prime example for the problem >
And older phone/tablet/streaming dongle MIGHT still allow you to watch Netflix if you had the app installed and used some workarounds to at least keep using it for the lower resolutions.
But you won’t even be able to install the current app because even if you used a custom ROM to get the oldie new life - you won’t have the required firmware support and DRM certifications.
Like it or not but sooner or later you either end with the new auth system or with a great printer running on firmware and software that keeps falling behind more and more…

For me going onto the 1.0.7 firmware and matching Studio version was a hard decision but with the clean install and setting all filaments up from scratch it all works better than it ever has…
Not saying I am keep to update again while I have all working so nice now…
But when the time comes that all the bug fixes and improvements get too tempting I have to hope that the Orca team is ready to let me enjoy my printer on bogus free firmwares…
At least until Bambu finally decides to honour the pledge they made so long ago that the P1 and A1 series will get unlocked firmwares we can tinker with like for the X1 series…
Something though tells me Bambu won’t remember what they promised…

This update brakes my live camera view :frowning:

I had the same problems. Glad it wasn’t just me! I fixed it by just going LAN only mode, and got the verification code off the printer, put into Studio, and it was all back to normal from there on.

Thanks for that, good to know that there was a workaround. I just waited for the next update in the hope that it fixed the problem, which it did!

how do i reinstall the old one im having problems too

scroll down to the version ypu want then open Assets
