New Firmware (1.8.1.0): Can no longer connect to printer

I upgraded from 1.8.0.0 to 1.8.1.0 and I can no longer connect to my printer with the app or with Bambu Studio.

Information:

  • The printer shows no IP address (0.0.0.0) for my wlan
    • My wifi network (Unifi) shows it connected, with an IP
    • My DHCP server on my router shows it online, with an assigned IP
  • The printer cannot be pinged on it’s IP (Unknown if it ever responded to ICMP)
  • After forgetting my wifi (Which is said it was connected to, and which my Unifi network saw as active and connected). It can no longer see any of my networks when trying to connect to wifi again

So… what are my options here? How do I downgrade the firmware??

Hello, I have exactly the same problem. I reset everything and it worked again. Then I shut off the printer. Later I started the printer again and no connection.

I am going to install the previous firmware via the usb to try and fix this problem.

Have you tried turning off power to all your hardware, disconnecting your AMS(s), powering up the printer alone and try to get a connection. Then bring your AMS devices back up one at a time if you have multiple.
Also, if you have a Panda Touch or similar device, disconnect it at the beginning also.
I seem to recall a similar case a while back where Panda Touch was a problem because BIQU needed to update their firmware in response to Bambu Lab updating their firmware.
Net result being conflict between Bambu Lab firmware and Panda Touch firmware.

I have one AMS connected to my Bambu lab printer.

I have installed version 1.8.0.0 on my P1S but the problem stil exist. Factory reset helps until I power down the printer then te next time I boot it up it is disconnected from my account and I can not print.

I also see IP adres 0.0.0.0

Hello.
Did you finish the “downgrade”? I have the same problem, how can I install the older version? :frowning:
Thanks for your help!

To downgrade you can download an older version from bambu lab support site and put the whole zip file on an SD card. Put the SD card in your printer and go to settings and then select firmware. There you can update via SDcard.

This however did not help the problem for me.

I have a Mesh system from Asus in my home for Wifi. I read somewhere that this could be an issue for the printer. We also had this problem with a hp printer.

I connected the printer to the master of the Mesh system and it seems to work for now.

I wil update of this changes.

I have had network issues the last week and this was the suggestion that helped me the most:
make sure to separate the 2.4 and 5ghz networks in your router. If you can pause the 5ghz, that may help. If your router cant have separate networks for 2.4 and 5ghz, consider a cheap extender that only projects 2.4 ear your printer.
(I have an eero and ended up buying a cheap $10 extender on Amazon that I can have do only 2.4ghz, installed it near the printer, and now it works).

The change for me by selecting my master wifi router has helped with this problem.

So as I understand it’s related to the router. Try my solution or the solution of splitsing your 2,4 and 5Ghz connection and see what works for your situation.

Thanks for all the replies!

All of our networks broadcast at 2.4GHz as well as 5GHz.

To clarify, the printer both saw, and was successfully connected to these networks until the firmware upgrade. After the upgrade it was still connected (The printer showed connected, the DHCP server showed the device online, and the network management portal showed the device connected to the network and a specific AP). But the printer was unreachable via cloud services and showed an Ip of 0.0.0.0 on the device .

We even have a IoT device specific network that only broadcasts 2.4GHz and has various features disabled for maximum compatibility (In addition to being on a more restrictive subnet), it no longer sees this network either.

Adding an unmanaged wifi access point for a single problematic device is unfortunately not an option here since this is a managed network through a single vendor.

I will try the firmware downgrade described above, other options have not worked thus far.

This indicates the negotiation between your printer and wifi AP failed.

This dues to various factors like incompatible configuration between ESP32 (the wifi chip of P1S) and the router, or just plainly ESP32 chip is bad and/or software wifi stack of ESP32 is bad.

PS: Yes, I had a some grudge against ESP32. I had a few projects at work that started prototyping with ESP32 but then had to switch to different BLE module.

I nabbed an old Wifi router/AP combo, hooked it up as a client to the network, and the printer was happy to see and connect to it. Though, this was only a temporary “fix” for the issues the printer was having.

However, as of now, the device pops up a 0.0.0.0 IP for this network as well. And unfortunately I do not have network logs like I had previously to indicate that it was, actually, in fact, connected.

After an hour if it not being able to find any wifi networks (neither mine, nor my neighbors). It can now see the original networks it could no longer connect to again…? And successfully connected back to one of those networks (There have been no networking device resets or shutdowns during this time).

To clarify, it appeared to be communicating with the AP, with actual network traffic. The ARP table entry for it’s MAC had also recently expired and the printer had recently responded to an ARP while it was in this reported 0.0.0.0 state. Indicating it was actually connected to the network.

I had the same problem, to revert to a formr version of th firmware start the Handy app on a mobile device → open the menu (between th + and th bell) to access the settings menu → select Firmware version theb select the optionI want to downgrade to a previous version
And select the preferred version.

Had what might be a similar problem with a printer firmware upgrade - upgraded 1 of 2 P1S’s to new firmware and Bambu Studio could see it online but failed to send prints. Unupgraded P1S was still working fine.

Didn’t check anything networky but a bit of a google came up with a solution - I’d skipped a software update to Bambu Studio as we all do - did software update and fixed the problem. Looks like the firmware/software versions for those updates needed to be aligned or things went wrong.

Hello,
today I’ve got a message in the display announcing a new firmware version.
I responded with ‘Yes’ on the prompt to update my printer.
After a reboot there was a message saying:
HMS 0500-0500-0001-0007
My printer was running on 01.08.02.00 firmware after the upgrade.

I’ve reverted to 01.08.01.00 and now all is fine.

A bit strange don’t you think?
What is a proper solution?

Best regards
Piet

To solve this problem, simply update Bambu Studio to the latest version.

The HMS error messages can be searched on the Bambu Lab Wiki, which also contains solutions for them

Hello, I’m not using the Bambulab Studio, but OrcaSlicer.
And the problem persists with the latest Bambulab Studio, so your advice is giving no solution.
