New firmware still won't dry without removing filament

To preface this, I am running the beta firmware. It states in the notes “AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT now support drying without auto-rotating the spools”.

It’s still making me open the unit and retract each spool. To me, this completely defeats the purpose of drying and maintaining a level of low humidity if I have to open the unit and feed each spool back in.

Am I missing something here?

You can do it with most filament but not with PLA which will soften inside the funnel.

I am running the latest firmware release and successfully used both my AMS 2 Pro & HT to dry my filament and desiccant. What I noticed using the screen now is it has a page whereby you can choose to rotate the spool or not. I’ve dried both PLA and PETG.

Just know that it won’t actually affect the humidity level inside the AMS once you closed it again. Sure, you’ll see a peak when it was opened, but it generally will stabilize again after a few minutes. In mine I use silica gel holders (front and back) and when I open it will jump to around 20%, but when I close it again it’ll drop to around 5%.

In any case, just opening and closing the lid won’t affect the dryness of your spools at all, it takes more than a few minutes for them to start absorbing moisture again :wink:

What would be nice though is when they could update the firmware to rotate the spools even when they’re inserted (except for PLA). Could make it so that the spool gets pushed further into the PTFE tube, then pull back and repeat.

If you disconnect the PLA from the funnel you can but not while keeping it inserted even when selecting to not rotate.

I was looking for both the firmware and firmware notes today for both the AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT

Can you tell me what firmware version is showing for the AMS 2 and the HT?
I looked at both on my P1S touch pad and they are different but similar while my two AMS_1 are identical.

AMS = v02.00.19.68
HT = v02.00.19.67

Dryness and humidity are two different things. They are indirectly related but different filaments will have more or less of a propensity to absorb moisture.
Different filaments will become saturated at different values.

So what you’re saying is my wife wasnt lying?

Not sure what you are asking.
Filaments range from drying is optional (PLA), up through mandatory long drying cycle (PPS-CF).
So you go from PLA at one end of chart up through PPA-CF where a long drying time at a high temperature is required
Different filaments are different chemicals which have different characteristics.
