If you don’t want to read the whole post, the one sentence version is as follows:
- If your model is stolen and put up on ‘Nexprint’, the automated process only credits you, and does not remove it from the offending user’s page, or their website
Summary Version
- Makerworld Exclusive alerted me of model theft
- Nexprint requires an account to address this
- The automated process is currently not doable on mobile, and can be hindered by adblockers
- The automated process adds the model to your profile, but
- It does not remove the models from the offender’s page, and only credits you at the bottom
- privating it or deleting it from your Nexprint account does not fix this
- Mod/Support intervention is required to remove them from the offender’s page
- The support staff at Nexprint were Friendly and Helpful, but they tried multiple times to recruit me to their creator program throughout the process
About 3 weeks ago, I was alerted by the Makerworld Exclusive Program that one of my models had appeared on Elegoo’s Nexprint website.
I was at work, so I could only check on my phone. It’s worth noting that their website is shockingly formatted for mobile, and that you can’t actually carry out the process on some mobile devices (tried on iphone and a samsung tab).
Hours later once I was home, I was able to start the process.
The first thing of note was that I couldn’t proceed with anything without first making an account, their support page had a discord so I asked there first and was told by an official Nexprint mod that they could assist me in PM.
It’s worth noting that this support person “Aaron” was extremely kind and helpful, and none of the process seemed to be a reflection on them
The mod gave me the above image of how to proceed
which unfortunately still required me to make an account. I followed these steps and wasn’t able to proceed due to adblockers preventing a popup after hitting model claim.
What was annoying after this was that, the model was now in my uploads on my nexprint profile (i didn’t want it on Nexprint), and most importantly, if you went to the other user’s page, it still showed my models with a part at the bottom that said “Original Creator: Jaayjeee” and a link to my Nexprint profile (not my makerworld where it was taken from.)
I don’t have a screenshot of this part unfortunately but i do have a screenshot of me asking the mod about this, they said they would sort it out.
so all it had essentially done was credited me.
The mod eventually responded with the other user’s page having been cleared of my models, this is concerning because they only did so after asking me to join their creator program, it felt like assisting me in this last part of the process was a means to incentivize me to join their program
Navigating model theft is already tricky, and it feels like Elegoo’s take on it so far is to basically say “we credited you, but we’re keeping it here now”
