I’ve already read all the lubing guide for bambulab A1, The y axis rails, the X axis Linear rails and the z axis Lead screws. Haven’t seen any lubing guide for the Z axis linear rod.
Yes the A1 is driven by a lead screw but a teardown video on youtube shows that the lead screws only drive the z axis and is it has no top berring it actually wiggles and is guided by a linear rod. I wonder why bambu doesn’t have a wiki for this. Maybe you don’t need to lubricate the linear rod in its entire life time? Or I’m the first one to talk about this.
Too simple, maybe? Wipe the rod down with a clean cloth and some IPA and then put a couple of drops of lightweight lubricating oil on the shaft and run the bearing through it a few times by hand…
the A1 mini has vertical linear rails exposed outside and is easy to lubricate. We cannot just leave the linear rods in the A1 with no maintenance. I think bambu needs to see this post.
This is something I have been concerned with ever since youtube suggested a video of putting together a voron. He had the new linear bearing, and was packing the bearing hub with grease. It was a very specific process. For the z bearing you can access the grease point however you cannot on the x.
I guess its ok to put the medium weight oil down the hole on the Z to give it something, but your supposed to use a pretty pasty grease until you see the bearing leaving grease behind on the bar while moving it. I haven’t taken my extruder off but looking close I do not see a packing nut area on that bearing slider. I am a little bit of a maintenance nut I would really like to know what do as well.
I’ve seen so many vidoes of people with their A series printers, and a bunch of wear going down the middle of the whole bearing as those balls are rubbing dry.
I have had the entire heat bed assembly apart including the Y sled. That ones doesn’t need much maintenance its just 4 ZZ bearings running along those rods hooked up to that alumin extrusion. Of course the bearing will wear out over time since they are non serviceable being sealed, but those things can go for a LONG time at much faster speeds… like in my drone motors.
