Noise A1 versus A1 mini

How is the noise level of the A1 compared to the A1 mini? Thinking of buying another Bambulabs, already have a A1 mini and a P1S.
Thanks!

I can tell you that the A1 is quiteter than the Ender 3 pro and S1 plus if that helps any.

The A1 Mini is almost silent, even printing pretty quickly. The A1 is very loud. I would put it close to my X1C in terms of sound (since the silent update). It’s not screaming loud, but you absolutely know it’s printing.

Day and night vs the A1 Mini, unfortunately.

wonder if the levels are near the P1S? my other two can be heard across the house the A1 can be felt across the house lol. the thing can be a tad violent.

I wasn’t quite prepared for the amount of movement coming from an ender 3 Neo V2 which has quite load fans but the actual motors are rather placid and quiet.

I have had to reinforce the table the A1 is on and am researching better things to place it on. The A1 fans aren’t too loud but the way it shakes everything is amazing! The comment about feeling it across the house is apt.

The ender was my first printer - purchased this past boxing day. ordered my A1 three days later and just ordered a p1s yesterday. The house will soon be a printer farm with a sea of benchys everywhere.

its really not that bad. its much quiter than my ender 3 after running all the calibrations and stuff. i mean you hear it but its nothing you cant stand to listen to i run mine right next to my desk.

I am very curious why that is the case. I read all the reviews about the A1 Mini, but ordered A1 thinking it wont be much different (because why would it?), and damn, this thing rolls at 50-60db from 1 m distance. Most of the noise comes from the fan in my case.

I own an A1 Mini and I find the part cooling fan also to be very loud when it runs at 100%. I am certain that it is above 48 DB which the marketing department advertised when the part cooling fan is at 100%. I would rather describe is being as loud as a hair dryer that runs at low setting. However, when the fan runs at 60% or lower it is barely audible compared to the rest of the printing noise. The fan speed is controlled via the slicer, for example it runs slow for the bottom layer and fast for overhangs or bridges. Therefore it makes a huge difference at which point in time you judge the printer’s noise.

I think the print head of the A1 and A1 mini are the same, therefore my theory is that the believed difference in noise is coming from misinterpretations due to fan speed which varies over the time of the print.

Yes it is quite quiet at lower speeds, however whenever I print, slicer makes it run at 80 most of the time, which is on the louder part of the spectrum.

So my conclusion is, the a1 mini is in a world of it’s own. If i want to print someting quick and not to big, i almost always use the mini, because it is simple and quieter then the rest of the bunch

I consider the A1 to be pretty quiet. It sits right behind me in my office, and I run it frequently while working, even on conference calls. The Y-axis (bed) is definitely the louder of the axis movements. And the aux cooling fan can get a little bit noisy?
It’s all got nothing on the laser cutter I have next to it. The laser cooling fan alone is multiples louder than the loudest sound on the A1, and we won’t talk about the fume extraction fan…

I’ve slept next the A1 mini set to silent speed…woke up when the part fan ramped to 100% but aside from that damn near noiseless…

I have Ender 3 (modded) and it is far more silent than A1. A1 is making loud noise when move Z axis (noticeable on homing and print ending. It is some kind of resonance). Y axis is also noisy when printing at normal speed. X is making rattling noise because of the balls in the linear rail. Z-retraction on some of the prints makes knocking sound.
I also don’t think the motors themselves are quiet enough even after calibration (when printing circles it’s very noticeable).
It is nervous printer - i.e it shakes a lot, but there is a simple solution - concrete slab or thick and heavy tile + rubber damper (anti-vibration mat for washing machine)

The printer is very good, but not silent at all.

hi !
i’m looking to buy a A1 mini but my girfriend is ok with it only if it is as (or more) silent than my Ender 3S1 Pro with silent steppers.
can you please tell me more about your feedback ? is it really quieter ? what about vibration from linear rails instead of rollers ?
thanks for your help

A1 is NOISY!

I had A1 mini before which I really loved, because I can have it in my living room without any problems. It’s almost silent most of the time. People can talk, walking around, watching tv like It’s not there when It’s still printing. You can sometimes hear it when the fan is running faster in some parts of printing, but overall It’s a tiny powerful peaceful machine.

Unfortunately, I had to send it back after 2 months of using due to the problem with camera and led bulb malfunction.

I then saw A1 back in stock. After reading specs I thought It’d be the same as the mini. Especially when they claim <48 dB. So I took a chance with it and very very disappointed.

Now It can’t be in the living room!!!

The fact they only have part fans i mean thats about as quiet as it gets… They run off ESP32 MCU’s given why they’re packed with features but lack in accessory power and don’t need dedicated fans cooling the boards but it would hurt it either to have one.

As with anything, speed kills. So if you’re running outer wall speeds above 200 mm/s it’ll be pretty loud from the motion alone. But the mini for the most part is pretty dang quiet and I don’t worry about speed with them since I implemented those into the shop to produce the best finishes so its set and forget.

I’m awaiting some hardware so I can fully utilize Octoeverywhere and get AI added on the A1’s and P1’s

The P series does run the ESP32 as the main processor.

The A series seems to only use it as a Wifi bridge and utilizes a larger processor as the main controller. You can seem them both pictured here on the A1 main board.
