Do you guys notice a coil whine high pitch electrical like noise coming from the X and Y motors? It is very noticable on my machine when I hit the homing button in the menu and navigate the tool head to other positions.
The machine works excellent, but this noise drives me sometimes nuts during prints. It´s nothing mechanical, it comes absolutly especially from the right motor.
it’s because it’s going super slow and no motor noise cancellation is applied here. a step motor going slow = large low humming noise. motor noise cancellation cannot be applied here because it’s doing a sensorless endstop measurement (homing without sensor, can only measure the current going through the motor to detect resistance, if you apply motor noise cancellation then the current value would be not reliable).
oh really, this is what that noise cancelation is for? I believed its a not tight winding in the motor causing that high pitch frequencies until now. Like serial production inconsistencies. So an exchange motor wouldn´t help?
This is not true. It applies the “noise cancellation” (aka reducing motor current) during all motor moves. It literally generates a pid lookup table that is used whenever the motors are used. How a sensorless end stop works has absolutely nothing to do with this.
The motors could be using literally any amount of current to move and this procedure will still work just fine.
If you don’t believe me, go ahead and factory reset your machine, record a homing sequence for the motor noise, then calibrate and do it again. Thwre is a noticable difference.
