Non-Bambu Filament Settings

Hello all,

I have been using a variety of Filament on my Bambu X1 Carbon the past week without any issues including the Bambu Brand and several other 3rd party filaments. The 4 others are simply using the Generic PLA filament profile and have had no issues. Yesterday I tried printing several models using Filacube filament and I am getting a variety of stringing and eventually spaghetti mess with this brand. I reviewed the settings for this filament and they indicated to test using a temp of 210-215 as well as some additional settings regarding retraction I posted below. I adjusted the max temp in the filament settings to 215 within Bambu studio for this particular filament profile and saved the profile. From my previous prints using the stock settings everything is always printing at 220 so I was expecting to see the temp print at 215 however once the print begun it started printing and maintained 220. On the mobile App I was able to adjust the temp to 215 and it did drop to 215. So, I am a bit confused here, should the max temp in the filament profile be configured for the temp range recommended by the filament mfg? I figured if I adjusted the temp range in the filament profile I would see the Bambu X1 Carbon respect this however it did not and printed at 220. That makes me question if the retraction settings are also being applied which I adjusted in the override within this custom generic pla profile.
Should I be adjusting the temp range within the filament profile in Bambu studio or control the temp from the device or mobile app? Seems odd when I adjusted the max to 215 it still printed at 220.

Any feedback on these questions would be appreciated as I am in the learning phase of this. Thanks

Retraction : retraction needs to be enabled! Start with a retraction distance of 5mm and a speed of 25mm/s and tune it. In Cura, the retraction speed should be 25mm/s or lower. Wipe might also need to be enabled. If you are experiencing stringing, blobs, zits, etc., tune retraction, coasting, and wipe settings.

I don’t know that min and max temperatures in the filament profile do anything more than generate warnings. The filament profile contains settings for nozzle temperature on first and other layers - that is what you should be changing.

Specifying retraction distances without specifying they are for direct or bowden extruders is stupid. Unless the filament is unusual (like light weight) the default distance of 0.8 mm should be good,

Damp filament causes stringing and poor layer adhesion. Unless you are sure it isn’t damp (and sadly fresh out of a vacuum sealed bag does not guarantee it isn’t damp) I would dry it before messing around with anything else. The X1 has a recently introduced drying function if you don’t have a dryer.

Thank you for your feedback froboz. I will take a look at these items tonight.

5mm is wayyyyyyy to much on retraction. You should be around .6. .7 .8mm. 5mm is for Bowden setups. You have a direct drive. Print a retraction tower in increments of .1mm

As for the temps you must remmember that the recommended temps on the filament is for printers printing at and around 50mm a second. Your bambu is going between 200-500mm a second so it needs higher temps to be able to melt quickly so ignore anything on the filament spool regarding temps. Any non bambu filament I print with I am printing at 225.
