I am new to 3D printing and bought the X1C Combo as my first printer based on reviews and that it is intended to work out of the box.
I have only just got it set up and printed a few items from the inbuilt library. The spool,bed scraper, benchy, torso and arc gauge. This ran through the inital 250g of PLA included.
I replaced installed a new roll of Bambu PLA Basic (grey) and set to print a poop bucket overnight. This morning I checked on the print early, it was well over 50% completed (the estimated time to print was 10-11hrs), but I noticed that the print nozzle was touch the previous layer as it printed the next layer. It was clear this nozzle should not be dragging on the model like that so I canceled the print as I needed to go to work.
I did not notice this problem with the previous models printed, but this is the tallest model printed so far. I am wondering if anyone experienced this issue (or similar) and has any advice. Is the calibration in the Z axis off?
Is it possible that Bambulab could use the load cell that is part of bed levelling process (or even the lidar) to detect the dragging of the nozzle on the previously printed layers? As the poop bucket was large and hollow it made quite the noise, but I don’t know how long it had been happening for.
Does that happen when the nozzle is oushed to the next position and does nothing at that moment ? Did you look at the retraction settings (filament)- there is a z hop option which would lift he nozzle a bit
I didn’t make any major changes as this was the first print I sliced myself. I selected the optimal setting 0.16mm Optimal setting, disabled brim because of size of print and used fuzzy wall finish and solid walls for strength. I didn’t alter any other settings that I recall as I am new to 3D printing.
When I got home from work tonight I removed the print bed and the print was well adhered to it and hadn’t lifted in a way that would cause the nozzle to make significant contact.
I hadn’t enabled any z-hop feature, but as I understand it that is used when the extruder is shuttling/jogging around and not laying down filament. I wish I had taken a video of it.
I just received my X1C yesterday. I had exactly the same problem today when printing the poop bucket. I used standard 0.2 layer height though. It affected the outside of the print due to resonance of the dragging. I lowered the speed to silent during print and this helped. No more dragging and noise. I still don’t understand what happened though.
I’m having what I think is the same issue. Noise can be heard in this video at 00:04 and 01:04. Only happens occasionally, when printing larger parts.
Silent speed solved it, however I’m not sure if it has solved the root cause of the issue. Perhaps the nozzle is still dragging on the previous layer but because it’s slower, the scratching noise is quieter and can’t be heard over the printer running. Ideally, there should be a solution that addresses the root cause and allows printing at full speeds.
In your video each time the extruder made a quick move from left to right it made that sound. To me the vibration was coming from the carbon rods. But also the belt tension could be off too.
Here is a wiki to check these items to make sure everything right.
Before I found this thread and lowered speed, I tried belt tensioning, carbon rods cleaning, lead screws cleaning and lubrication, build plate cleaning, repositioning part in slicer, recalibration. None of the above helped unfortunately.
Edit: having watched the video slowed down, I can see the nozzle is visibly higher than the part at the moment the noise is produced. So it is likely you’re right and the carbon rods are making that noise. Think I’ll submit a support ticket and see what they say.
Hey @Organicactus did you ever end up eliminating the problem? If so, how did you do it? My printer just started vibrating two days ago and it is affecting my work flow.
I kinda forgot about this and moved on
Will retest to see if the issue is still there. I don’t normally print long object like this that utilize most of the X-axis length, and on smaller objects the problem does not seem to happen.
I noticed that when I was printing some ABS at 0.08mm on a 0.4mm nozzle I was experiencing the scraping sound, but then about a week later it was happening on every print and every material, I will clean my carbon rods as others have said this is the cause, but I haven’t done that much printing with my X1C for them to have worn
