How do we convince Bambu lab to improve the nozzle wiper design?
I really love this printer, been using 3D printing in an industrial professional environment for more than 10 years and this is the first consumer level 3D printer that really impressed me. The one thing that I think was designed offhandedly is the wiping system, seems that a redesign is not a big effort and would really like an official Bambu labs modification for this part.
Welcome to the forum.
I don’t think you will see an official update to the nozzle wiper. Any design changes will be released on the next version of the printer. There are different options the community has come up with using the A series wiper (example).
Something I’ve wondered about ever since I received my X1C: Is there any particular reason why a BL printer likes to rub its nozzle on the tab thingy located at the rear of the build plate rather than use the regular wiper that’s just above the poop shoot (or, if not that, then one similar to the one that JonRaymond links above)? Not only does that rubbing start to wear a gouge in that region of the build plate, but I assume it also gradually wears away at the nozzle tip/opening.
The tab on the back of the build plate is to scrape the nozzle clean while also dropping the temperature to 140c. Then proceeds to check zoffset.
The nozzle is much harder than the plate.
yes the rubbing makes sure, that there is really no buildup under the nozzle when probing Z. The wiper can’t guarantee that. I think this is a very clever feature. Many other printers fail first layers exactly because of such buildup.
Today is 6/7 2025 and they have done absolutely nothing. Mine broke up last night and I called Best Buy customer support to return it and let them know this company does not have any customer support other than darn wiki and email. Even the email is useless. Even after 3 days I am waiting to answer from them.
My only explanations are: They don’t understand written English, they don’t care, or pure arrogance. At least, they could have chat support. They have one but it is for sales. Figure, always “I want money… I want Money… I want…”
This post is 2024 and today is half way 2025. Obviously, this issue is extremely down in the bottom of the barrel for them.
I think by now it’s clear: Bambu is following the Creality model: if you want an improvement, you have to buy a newer printer that contains it.
Am I wrong? I can’t think of any meaningful counterexamples, other than the A1 electrical cord recall.
Actually, that’s not quite true. Ocasionally Creality does sometimes come out with upgrades, like upgrading older models to run Klipper, for instance. I guess the similarity is more that there’s no promises. And both companies have been known to make firmware improvements.
They will not last long in the marketplace. With social networks, they will gain negative reputation and, eventually, they will not be able to sell their products.
I think their main problem is that they have not developed a support infrastructure in the countries they sell. In addition, they need a few Product Managers to work with their support and to listen to their customers to always respond to the customers. A product/feature roadmap plane shared with customers goes a long way in making successful products and companies.
Compared to other 3D printers I have tried, BL do seems to have the best ones but they need to listen to customers and let the Product Managers develop the product strategy needed for creating darn good products, hardware and software, and a darn good company.
