Object Arrange Questions

I have an A1 and am trying to arrange a small object I need to print a large number of (basically would like a grid created with x number along the X axis & y number along the Y axis):

  1. I’m guessing it would make the printing quicker if the set of objects are arranged close together to minimize travel moves. Does anyone know if this is true?

  2. Assuming this is true, why doesn’t Auto Arrange attempt to put the set as close to one another as possible? If I place my object on a plate and copy/paste it multiple times and then use Auto Arrange, it seems to spread the set across most of the plate. I figured it would know how to arrange objects to print the quickest and/or give you an option to specify the spacing. Am I missing something?

  3. Is there a way to get a direct top view of a plate? I know you can rotate it close to a direct top view with your mouse which kinda works but it won’t be perfect. Are there any automated options to get direct planer views?

Without a screenshot, any response is general.

When you use auto arrange the slicer makes decisions based on a number of factors you may not appreciate.

It knows how fast it will be going at the beginning and end of layers, how far the head is to models, where best to accelerate and decelerate.

You see patterns and think that makes sense, but, you haven’t considered the other factors because they are not something we usually even take into account.

You can change you view by using the command (Mac) or Ctrl (I assume for Windows) key in combination with the numpad.

0, 1 and 4 are my most common, there are others.

travel speed is very fast compared to print speed

View shortcuts are available in the drop-down menu next to File. I also prefer the Orthogonal view for positioning objects on the plate.
