Object split - Only female connectors and then printed dowels?

Hello,

I am trying to print the M6 Halo Game Pistol and I want to split the gun in half so I can have two flat parts to print. If I use the built in connectors feature within the split function, it creates the female holes on one part’s flat side, and the male parts (half dowel) on the other part’s flat side. I am no longer able to print the male part on its flat side without the male dowels causing massive supports needed.

In the past I have manually created two female (holes) in tinkercad (one for both split parts) and then just printed a separate dowel that is slightly smaller than the female holes. This way I can print both parts on their flat sides, and only need supports for the holes themselves.

Does Bambu Studio have this capability? Or maybe I am missing something really simple on how I should be doing this. =)

Thanks

You did everything right except you missed the step of selecting “dowel” not “plug” which is easy to miss. It’s not obvious BTW.

Example using a cube primitive.

#1 Click on Cut and Click on "Add Connectors

#2 Click on Dowel.

#3 Place dowels and then click Confirm Connectors

#4 The bodies – including dowels – will now be objects on your plate. Manipulate them as you would any other object. So if the dowel holes are too small, you can simply scale the dowels and reprint them in under 5 minutes.

Perfect! Thank you very much.

make the dowels a bit shorter, around 0.2-04mm works for me. I don’t support the dowel holes and the tiny bit of hang on the bridges prevents the two parts from being perfectly flush.
