Wird die vielfältigen Erweiterungen zur Speicherung der Benutzerdefinierten Einstellungen von Bambu Lab weiter verfolgt?
Das Potenzial wäre groß.
Wenn ich zum Beispiel einen RDIF auf eine Spule anbringe die nicht von Bambu Lab ist und ich spezielle Einstellungen an Hersteller, Farbe, Filamentart, verwendete Einstellparameter usw. sich selbstständig auf einen RFID abspeichern, wäre das auch ein großer Vorteil gegenüber andere Hersteller.

Verstehe aber bei der geringen Auswahl von eigenen Filamenten nicht so den Sinn.
Zumal das Potenzial von automatischer Wiedererkennung von verschiedensten Filamenten und den optimierten Einstellungen für eine Erleichterung klar auf der Hand liegt.
Diesen Vorteil so zu verschenken und es nicht zu nutzen, sein eigenes Produkt noch lukrativer zu machen wäre verschenktes Potenzial.
I suspect that Bambu Lab hopes that you will buy their own filament with it if possible.
But with the small selection of own filaments, I don’t understand the point.
Especially since the potential of automatic recognition of a wide variety of filaments and the optimized settings for relief is obvious.
Giving away this advantage and not using it to make your own product even more lucrative would be wasted potential.
I understand that Bambu wants to sell the filament too, but I think their core business is the hardware. They are beginning to reduce some of the filament offered, so why not let other manufacturers use the RFID capabilities and provide information on recommended hotend temps, colour info and the rest so the AMS can pick that up. What would eventually happen is the RFID capabilities would become a defacto industry standard. might even be possible to sell AMS for other systems if everyone is using your idea. Could be a HUGE win for Bambu Lab.
I actually came here to suggest this. Bambu, get on this, it would be genius and a feather in your cap too.
Unfortunately in business, powers that be frequently want to lock everything up with patents and use them to preserve an advantage for the duration of the patent. I don’t know the current status but see…
It appears to describe the Bambu RFID system all the way down to encrypting the tags. Sadly, it also covers using bar codes and optical readers.
The fun part is it was awarded to MakerBot Industries, LLC. If Bambu didn’t buy the patent rights from MakerBot, and MakerBot still owns it, that could make Bambu a licensee. I have to say I’m not a lawyer and all I did was search for a patent that did this, but I think it’s the Bambu RFID system.
Anyway, IF Bambu is a licensee and it’s not their patent, they could be subject to any number of restrictions. I could certainly see not allowing someone licensing your patent to make it available to others. That would presumably be up to MakerBot to do as they please if they still own and control the patent and if it truly is describing the Bambu RFID system, and if Bambu is a licensee.
It could be it’s not up to Bambu at all. Since it looks like MakerBot put in there multiple ways to identify a spool of filament, that probably leaves very little room for someone to implement their own system that isn’t infringing on the ones MakerBot enumerated.
This makes me sad. If this is correct, the only way we’ll see others put RFID tags in or bar codes etc on their spools is if they license the technology. And even then, if it’s licensed as a way to lock customers into an ecosystem, we won’t see products from two companies being compatible with each other.

That patent is a very interesting read and discusses using the RFID tags or other ID system to enforce using only authorized materials in the printer. Not sure how legal that would be in all countries but they might be able to do it in some.
At any rate, patents protect for 20 years from filing date. It looks like there will be no alternatives until January 11, 2036.
Also interesting - use of a tablet or phone to send models to a printer is included in that patent. Hello, Bambu Handy…
Prusa unveiled its NFC system “OpenPrintTag” yesterday, completely open source and, in my opinion, the absolutely right approach.
The question is, how long can BambuLab continue to rely on its RFID system? For me, the tags haven’t been a reason to buy BambuLab filament for a long time; I see no added value in the tags beyond material identification on the printer.
If BambuLab is smart, they’ll scrap their system and join the OpenPrintTag group.
I absolutely agree with your opinion. BambuLab have very good printers, but luckily, they didn’t try to lock their printers for external filaments. I buy various filaments depending on my print needs, not the ability to recognise and measure filament use. Sometimes it is Bambu filament, sometimes it is Sunlu or Fiberlogy. Therefore, I would be very happy if Bambu would join this great initiative. Engineers at Bambu - please remember about your 3d printing legacy…
I assume Bambu kept their RFID solution secret to protect their IP and to encourage us all to buy Bambu filament as it’s easier in the AMS and Studio.
But if the Open RFID standard is adopted widely as seems likely, then the reasons for secrecy go away, and actually they would do better to adopt the open standard so that owners of other printers would consider buying Bambu filament.
Effectively after manufacturers of printers and filament adopt Open RFID the lock-in effect is reversed from being a benefit to Bambu filament sales to a disadvantage.
How long are Bambu customers going to happy if the situation is that other major brand printers can pick and choose any filament but Bambu owners’ machines can’t read the tags on Sunlu et al filament
As soon as the first Prusa printers (which have already been announced) can read OpenPrintTags, and the first major filament manufacturers put the tags on their spools or at least provide the data for users to write their own tags, the topic will gain momentum, and more and more manufacturers will follow suit over time.
Such a data set for each filament can be created in under a minute and offered as a download right next to the technical data sheet.
And then there will be projects where people offer DIY solutions for other printers and connect them to Klipper and other systems, for example. My order of a set of OpenPrintTags arrives today; happy testing!
The point will come when Bambu will eventually be left alone with its system.
As I already mentioned, I initially found Bambu’s RFID system quite nice, but it’s not exactly groundbreaking. I now use 90% third-party filament with my printer because, in the time it takes the AMS to read the RFID tag on the spool, I’ve already manually entered the material on the printer’s display—it offers me absolutely no advantage anymore.
MakerBot (mentioned in this thread) is before my 3D printing time by quite a bit but this has a little bit of the history of what happened to them. (apologies if I am repeating something already posted here).
Maybe classified as a cautionary tale?
