what brand or type is needed for oil /grease on the rods.

None. The carbon rods should be self lubricating and the bearings on the steel ones are packed with grease. That might have to be replaced eventually, but none of the machines out here should need it.
You do not want to have any extra grease or oil on the rails, as they will just collect more dust and dirt and could actually decrease the life expectancy of the motion system. It is actually important, to keep them as clean as possible and also degrease them with IPA from time to time!
What you can do, is adding some anti rust oil, but very little, on the steel rails. But once again, it is important not to overdo it!
