See attached screen grab. I keep having trouble with supports building on top of the model even when I have “On Build Plate Only” checked. Is this a known bug?
The slicer is doing exactly what your asking. It is putting in a support where it’s needed and “only” attaching directly to the build plate. If you don’t want the slicer to attached to a specific area, you may want to try painting blockers onto the underside of the part you do not want touched.
Here is another screen grab, in case my first one wasn’t clear. In this one, I have support interface layers (dark green) turned on. You can see that the slicer is generating supports on top of my model in the highlighted areas. In my experience, this is not how “On build plate only” is supposed to behave.
It would be helpful to see the whole model structure above this slice. I can only infer from a small cross section that there is more to the model than your screengrab is showing.
If you can show another screen grab with the model slice a few layers higher, then we can see what the slicer saw.
Alternatively, have you tried using paint blockers and manual mode as was suggested above?
Another option is to consider using hybrid supports in manual mode which will give you far more granularity in the structure of the supports.
Is this your own design or can you link to the model? That would help rather than going back and forth.
