Hello. I want to print a 0.2mm layer that has 8 colors. I only have one AMS. Can I print 4 colors, pause and print the other 4?
Is there any technique to do this? Thank you so much
If you are only printing 1 layer it should be easy, you need to be at the AMS for the whole print to swap spools but it’s not difficult. just add all 8 of your filaments to Bambu studio. You need to slice and review to determine the order of the printing of each color (Take notes), then on the print screen add two colors to each AMS slot, you just need to be sure that no AMS slot has two colors that will be printed consecutively. Then when the first color is done printing and the filament finishes retracting you have at least until the next filament is done printing to swap the spool to the second color that you assigned to that AMS slot. No pausing required. Do the same for each AMS Slot - just swap spools once the first color of each AMS slot is finished. It helps to have good notes to know which color you will need to swap for each AMS slot.
As an example: If the first color printed from AMS slot 1. Once it’s done with the first color for slot 1 and the printer has unloaded that and moved on to a different AMS slot, you can swap filaments in AMS slot 1 and the printer will be fine with that, Just pull the filament out and push the new filament in a bit, The AMS will not grab it but as long as you got it in far enough where it usually grabs it, the printer will be able to use it. The printer will come back and use AMS slot 1 once the second color assigned to that slot is to be printed.
Let’s see if I understood. In Bambu Studio I add the 8 colors and configure it as if I had 2 AMS.
When the first color ends, the second color passes.
When you go to the third and there is no filament in the third, do you look in the first? Is it like that?
Not quite, when you get to the print screen you can assign more than 1 color to each AMS slot so you assign 2 colors to each slot, it’s still configured as 1 AMS.
Say Color red and Black are assigned to slot 1, After Red prints, then say Green starts printing from slot 2, then remove red from slot 1 and put black in slot 1 while Green is printing. When green is done then say it goes and prints yellow from slot 3, while yellow is printing remove green from slot 2 and put the next color for slot 2 say orange. Then say it goes and prints black from slot 1, while black is printing swap out yellow for it’s next color. When Black is done printing, both colors printed from slot 1 so no more changes to slot 1. After the first color from slot 4 prints and you change it’s spool then all spool changes are done and just wait for the print to complete.
I hope this makes sense.
Excellent. I’m going to try it. He found out perfectly. thank you
Here is picture of 6 Colors in the print screen, I have Black and purple assigned to slot A2, White and yellow assigned to A1, Blue in A3 and Orange in A4
