"Only one wall on first layer" fails if other layers have zero walls

I have a design where I want zero walls on all layers. Except the first layer. So in the Strength tab, I set the wall loops to zero. And then in the Quality tab, check “Only one wall on the first layer.”

Unfortunately, that latter option doesn’t take effect. There are still zero wall loops on the first layer.

Any idea what is a convenient solution for this?

One thing I considered was splitting the design into parts and then applying a different setting to the first layer. Unfortunately, my design has millions of triangles, and the split menu alone has been beachballing for the last 10 minutes.

Go to the objects tab and select height range modifier:

Then enter a height from 0.0 to 0.2mm (assuming layer height is 0.2mm), select one wall loop, like this:

Add another modifier by pressing on the + here:

Set zero walls for that:

For my model, this looks like this

Depending on what you want, you might have to edit the number of top/bottom layers.

That’s exactly what I needed. Thank you! I was worried I was going to have to add a modifier cube and fiddle with its position and height. But this is so much simpler!
