OrcaSlicer workaround for Project tab restrictions

Since Bambu Studio commandeered the Project tab for Makerworld, many of us have missed the ability to create and edit information about our own projects. I’ve found a workaround using OrcaSlicer that at least helps restore some of that ability.

I like the idea of keeping notes about a particular project, to document successes, failures, reasons for particular settings, etc.

OrcaSlicer offers an option to keep text notes in the Process profile. You can put your notes in the text box and then save the profile with a new name, checking the box for “Project inside Preset”, before saving the Project.

That Process preset (and your notes) will then only be available within that project.

If the Notes are the last thing displayed before saving the project, they will be the first thing displayed the next time the project is opened, so this could be a good place for any special warnings.

FWIW, I think the terminology (inherited from Studio?) is backwards - “Preset inside Project” makes more sense because that Process preset is only available within that project.

I suppose Softfever anticipated this use of the Process Notes, but I’ve not seen it mentioned anywhere, so I wanted to give it some publicity.

Thanks for sharing my friend. Truly useful piece of information.

I want to share a discovery I made today, since I stumbled on a change in OrcaSlicer that I have not seen mentioned anywhere.

You can again include pictures, web links, pdf, txt, and xls files in an Orca .3mf Project file. Studio will only load the geometry, but for private projects, this change brings back many of the functions we lost when Bambu hijacked the Project tab.

Apparently this Project editor was restored back in Orca 2.0.0 beta, but I missed the change because it was buried under a “more” link in the release notes, and I quit looking at the useless Project tab months ago. I think the editor still a work in progress, as 2.1.1 works better than 2.0.0, and there are a couple things that need improvement, but this is a big, usable, step in the right direction.
