Outer wall bumps related to retraction and wipe?

Hi all, this is my first time posting here, hope I’m in the right spot.

So, I’m having some surface lumps in specific spots that I’ve narrowed down to (I believe) retraction and wiping settings, as they happen in the exact spots of retraction and wiping I see in the slicer.

fyi, this is a small test section of a larger print.

Here are pics of four tests I ran:
all with:
.4 nozzle
dry (new spool) Elegoo Matte White PLA
printed at 205 nozzle temp, 37 bed temp
100mm/s outer wall speed
outer/inner wall order:

#1 - Settings other than listed above: wall generator Arachne

the arachne wall made those patterns in the thinnest “window” section of the print (its only .5mm thick). Note that the far right section that is a problem in test #2 is pretty smooth here (though still a visible lump line where the retraction is)

#2 - Settings other than listed above: wall generator classic

So the thin “window” section looks better with classic wall but now those bumps appear on the right side. Again, right where retraction and wiping happens in the slicer.

#3 - Settings other than listed above- Turned OFF wiping while retracting

Surprisingly this helped a lot, bumps are way less, but I’m concerned that having wiping off will cause issues in other parts of the print when I print the whole thing. Plus I’d like to understand what’s happening here.

#4 - Settings other than listed above- just for kicks I tried increasing retraction length and speed: Retraction length: 1.8mm, retraction speed 50mm/s, Detraction speed 50mm/s

Interesting that it blobbed badly but not where the other blobs were, but not sure why. I would think increasing retraction wouldn’t make blobs. Maybe not relevant to the issue I’m trying to solve but wanted to note in case.

My hunch is I need to dial in the retraction, and maybe it’s not as apparent on a vertical wall, but when a wall is at a sharp angle like this it gets “revealed”. Make sense?

Any help much appreciated!
